The 3 block line is what i tried the first time and for some reason it didn't work. havent tried it again since. maybe i'll try it tonight, MC might just be messin with me.
i've have a three block one in the middle of my wheat greenhouse since almost day 1. Works great. I use it all the time when I want to add different water features to my compound. Just remember to only collect from the center block.
of course with the 3 block you have to remove the middle block, as removing either side doesnt propagate the water, with a square of 2/2 it doesnt matter which block you take.
I have a pool I made behind my condo building, which started out as a pond. (OK, that sounded like Caddyshack.) It's L-shaped, with a deep end (2 blocks) and 2 shallow ends (1 block), one long and one short one to the side of the diving board area. As long as I pull water out of the long shallow end, there is no problem. I can pick it from the edge of the pool, and 3 streams flood in and turn it back into a source block, or I can pick it out of the middle, and 4 streams flood in (and turn it back to a source block). But if I go toward the deep end, or try the short shallow end, it can mess up. I'm not sure now whether the problem is the change of depth. That's what I've been assuming. I should do some tests to pinpoint the cause.
Glad I'm not the only one who gets annoyed by the currents thing in water; looks like whirlpools or something. It doesn't bug me enough to spend ages fixing it though.
The infinite water trick is neat and very useful, shame it doesn't work for lava though.
I'm going to have to check that, I'm fairly certain I've made source lava before using the three-block. Maybe I'm just getting old

you can only grab water from the middle for it to stay as infinite source

I'm going to have to check that, I'm fairly certain I've made source lava before using the three-block. Maybe I'm just getting old
