Hello this is my first post but me and a friend were wondering when the servers come out on xbox edition and it becomes infinite world will any previous saved worlds adapt to those changes or will they stay the same and not be infinite world?
As of right now we don't even know if world will be getting bigger, let alone infinite. Don't expect infinite worlds. As for dedicated servers, I don't think those have been confirmed either, though they are being looked into.

ok thank you your post was the best lol, everybody elses was a total put down but yours gives me hope
(23) If PC users and 360 users can connect to the same server, can I prevent 360 users from joining my server?
With the minecraft-vanilla-server software, I doubt it. Just like servers cannot detect if a person is using Linux, Mac, or Windows. Same thing with Xbox. Though people will most likely make a plugin for Bukkit to block people, just like there are already plugins for bukkit to see if people are using mods on there client. Though nobody really has a reason to make a plugin to detect Linux, Mac, or Windows. There will probably be one to detect the xbox.
this is where I got the idea, get some dude who doubted me
No infinite worlds? ... ... ... ... NOOOOOOOOOOOO! Just great. wait isn't castleminer z infinite why isnt minecraft if there have the same concept someone tell me why!

castleminer z like a wasteland and its funny how the mobs and players run.

As far as I know, there has been no one official reason given. I could be wrong though. One possible reason is that there is a file size limit for XBLA games. Castleminer is an indie game, and from what I understand they don't go through the same certification process as XBLA games, and therefore have less restrictions placed on them.
It's been mentioend a few times. due to the xbox having to support 4 player split-screen then game world is limited. 1 machine will need to run everything 4 times, potentially. I don't remember where now, but it is on these forums that it was discussed.
Yesterday, there was a thread polling people as to whether they would choose 4-player splitscreen or a larger world. On that thread, 4JSteve posted that 4 player splitscreen has almost no effect on world size and that removing it as an option would have almost no effect on the game. The theories mentioned about how the XBox handles 4-player splitscreen do not, therefore, appear to be completely accurate. The reasons behind not enlarging the current world size have not really been given.
I, for one, don't mind having a limited world. It perhaps could be somewhat larger than it is now to accommodate additional biomes. However, I don't really understand how people are getting their panties in a twist over people being able to access unlimited resources through an upcoming creative mode on one hand and yet whine about not having an unlimted world size, which would then have to have unlimited resources by default then, wouldn't it?
I didn't realised 4J had chimed in on the amtter now. fair enough.
I guess with the infinite world size, you still have to work for your unlimtied resources, rather than be given them all at once..
True, but land/space itself is also a resource that needs to be "worked" for and carefully managed (at least on this limited planet we call Earth). Not having unlimited amounts of it could be used to add a yet different element of challenge to the game.
In multiplayer games, competition for resources in an unlimited world does not really exist since any player can just jump endlessly from fresh minesite to fresh minesite where they will almost undoubtedly encounter a fresh stock or concentration of all the resources in the game. The only difference is the number of hours the player has to potentially sit there pressing the right trigger to swing their pickaxe, (which isn't really all that challenging). If worlds are unlimited, the survival challenge of scrounging around for ever diminishing resources in treacherous mined out sites that have been carved into Swiss cheese would be very effectively removed.
It's really OK with me either way. I think my preference is really to be able to play the game either way, at my option or the option of whoever is hosting the world I'm playing in. That ability allows me and them to interject some variety into the games to keep them from becoming tedious. From a programming perspective, there may be a need to program an accommodation for unlimited resources (i.e. creative mode) before the programming can be adapted further to accommodate larger or unlimited worlds. I'm not a programmer, so I don't know; but I think it might be a possibility.
I'm willing to be patient so that the developers can properly work out all the glitches involved in such a progression before releasing things. Losing worlds due to game crashing bugs is REALLy something I don't find very fun.
Well as the PC doesnt even have infinite world size then clearly we wont. I do hope we may see larger maps but we shall see, perhaps after they move to the Anvil system as that frees up some system resources I believe ?
