1.8 is coming, and alot of you are new to the forums and Minecraft. I figured I would help you guys out a little bit.
The update known as 1.8 or "The Adventure update" will change the face of Minecraft.
Some of you will create a new world and just go "WTF?"
Do not worry, if you read this you will be armed and ready for 1.8!
-Enderman Enderman are a bit tough to kill, but once you play Minecraft for a while, you will get used to their tactics and eventually discover their weaknesses. They can teleport so be careful! They also attack when looked at. Just do not point your crosshair at them or they will become hostile. Wearing a pumpkin on your head will prevent this from happening. Another irritating characteristic about these guys is that they like to pick up blocks. So if you see a couple blocks missing from your house, these are signs of Enderman nearby. They also do not burn in daylight.
-Cave spiders These guys are very similar to regular spiders, however there are some unique characteristics. They can only spawn in caves, hence the name "Cave spiders". They have a blue-ish texture and are much smaller than regular spiders. Their size lets them climb through 1 x 1 tunnels. They also deal a bit more damage, so be careful!
-Silverfish
These guys aren't what you think. They aren't only found in water, they are found in caves. If you see one, don't attack it unless you know you can kill quickly. If you damage one and they are still alive, others will come and help out the one you attacked. They spawn in walls and crawl out of them.
Other Major features -Food bar. This will force you to eat every once in a while. You cannot heal hearts directly, but indirectly. Once the food bar is full, your hearts will heal slowly but surely. Also, you can now be food poisoned. If you eat rotten flesh (new mob drop when zombies are killed), raw porkchops, raw chicken, or raw beef, there is a chance of you becoming food poisoned and your food bar begins to reduce a lot quicker. Cave spiders have a new attack that can poison you as well.
-Experience points. Right now they do not serve a great purpose, but when enchanting comes, you will use the points to enchant tools. EXP points are dropped when an enemy is killed. -Generated structures. These structures will be villages (No villagers for right now, they will be added later), abandon mine shafts, ravines, and strongholds. -New biomes. These biomes will be swamps and extreme hills. They have also added rivers that flow between biomes. -New food. You can now kill cows and chicken to obtain their beef and chicken meat. Both of these items can be cooked. They have also added melons, and you can find the melon seeds in dungeons. -Critical hit system. You can now do more damage by jumping in the air, and while you are falling, swing your sword at an enemy. It will identify if you made a critical hit or not by displaying stars pop out around your enemy. -Creative mode. Lets the player fly, take no damage, and gives the player infinite blocks. Great for huge builds that would be impossible on survial. -Added stone brick, stone brick stairs, and stone brick slabs. Just a pretty cool new block type made from stone.
Thanks for reading this, hopefully it helped.
If I missed anything that you spotted, please post it.
I'll be happy to add it.
Couldn't we have you know, waited until the update was even close to being out?
I suppose you are right, but all of these people new
to the forums and Minecraft hear everybody talk about this update
and have no idea what it is. I just thought it would be helpful
to let these guys understand more about the update.

True. Just seems like it might be like throwing lighter fluid on a fire.
Quick question about the melons are they in chests near mob spawners? Or do they just randomly appear in caves. Also will I have to start a new world to find them since I've discovered all my world?
Thanks for the info since i'm still fairly new to minecraft this gives me an idea of what's to come. Whenever the update comes out (i don't mind the wait) Enderman will be the first mob i will fight just to see what its like.
does anyone know if the enderman we get in 1.8 are going to be the annoying as hell "remove any block"
enderman, or the nerfed ones?
It shouldn't affect me that much as I play mostly on peaceful, except when I need gunpowder or bones, but I don't fancy having my houses nibbled away at whenever I turn peaceful off.
I am going to guess they will be the annoying version. But I don't think anything has been said about them officially yet.
You forgot to mention cave spiders can poison you ( so can raw chicken and rotten flesh ) and that silverfish usually spawn in strongholds and there are no jungles in 1.8.

You know all the new forum goers are going to just post new topics asking these questions, right? Lol
Throwing ender eyes (blaze powder+ender pearl) will lead you to a stronghold. There are 3 strongholds per world.
