I'm always amazed by people here... You're saying that this game is taking forever to be updated? Obviously you've never played Phantasy Star Universe on the Xbox 360. Talk about non-supported games, WITH a $10 per month subscription on top of the purchase of the game for $20.
It was released 3 months after the Japanese version, and they were intending on giving all the content that the Japanese version had exactly 3 months later than they got it. Sounds reasonable right? The Xbox 360 version ended up almost 3 years behind the Japanese version at the end of both their runs. The Japanese version would continually get updates with new content, where the Xbox 360 version only got 1 update with new content over the 5 year run, and all of the content that was given out was already on the disc. Once they ran out of content to give on the disc, they started reskinning all the weapons as old models. Meaning, while the Japanese version got tons of new content, the Xbox only got a tiny fraction of that content. There were 708 weapons that the Japanese version got that the Xbox version didn't get because Sega didn't want to go through the hassle of actually adding new content. Keep in mind that this game had a subscription to play.
Now that I'm done ranting, we all should be very thankful for the support that this game is getting. Coming from a PSU background, I'm amazed at how quickly these updates are coming out.
based on wikiepedia (ha!) I'd suggest that the difference is not as severe as the difference between English and Chinese but no where near as mundane as the difference between New York and Atlanta. I'd expect it to be comparable to a modern English speaker trying to read Gaelic.
Whammy,
I don't really see anybody complaining here. We're discussing (or, at least, what I intended to be discussed) is what 4J is spending their development resources on.

I hates PSU I stop playing it the first month it came out, but you are actually right, we gotta be patient and give 4J a break they working as hard as possible to bring us these content, I play both the PC and xbox360 version and when I sometimes get bored with Xbox version I just hop on my pc and play around. You guys have to take into consideration that they bringing content from 1.9 into 1.8 which already it's a big update, so I wouldn't be surprise if 1.8 it's release by mid September or early October. That's just my thoughs anyways
Think of it like translating chinese to english. Not only do you have to spend days trying to find a way to convey the same message, (IE: I think pie is awesome), but you also have to deal with words that just don't make sense in translation. There are some sayings in chinese that just sound retarded in english using a direct translation simply because the context is lost. Saying something like, "He's hot like a bubble-eyed flounder" would seem insane if you don't have the context that their culture revered said fish for its ability to reverse aging or something. So when you translate that, you'd have to add new words entirely to convey the same message. Programming works a little like that. You need new words, and new ways to arrange the code to make it work. Some times you need entirely new commands to accomplish the same thing. These new commands cause new problems, new bugs that need new solutions.
I don't think it is taking a long time at all. It blows my mind that people are already talking about another update. I had assumed it would be at LEAST a six month wait, probably longer. I haven't even really gotten into pistons yet, anyway. But the fact that there's already news about it is mega exciting!
Can someone summarize what they've actually mentioned about the next update, though? I am having trouble following the thread of conversation in the Twitter feed.
Add the fact that not all programmers do things the same way or have the same proficiency either. One programmer could write a neat logic structure like a simple If When all on the same line and make it nice and legible, others could spread it out over 10 lines and make it unreadable. Poor commenting makes a translation magnitudes harder.

All you really need to know is that 4J is going to be bringing things to 1.8.2 earlier than they were on the PC. XP was in 1.8, but not Enchanting. Animal spawning changed greatly, but the lack of Breeding from 1.9 made animals in 1.8 harder to find once you killed them all.
They're just trying to decide what should be added with 1.8.2 from later updates to make the game better, or at least make more sense.
