Hey guys, so many of us have heard that the main issue that 4j is having to deal with in order to increase map size is maintaing the 4 player local multiplayer, this is because that way the xbox has to be able to render 4 different views, forcing us to keep this small maps.
Altough im no game coder im guessing it should be as simple as im presenting it so ive made this poll to see what the community prefers. Feel free to post any other ideas or options that should be included in the poll.
I think someone already made a poll like this but i still voted(why not?) I don't care for local online/splitscreen because I'm the only one who plays MC(my roommates don't play video games)
I haveto have at least 2 players! Me and my son both play! Although we have our own worlds on our own xbox accounts, we like to jump in and help each other! And play with others on their worlds!
And this being the reason is JUST an assumption! And speculation! I read the thread your talking about, the one with the experiment with redstone signal across map! Its safe to assume they kept the map size small in the first place because of that assumption! But that does not mean its preventing a larger map size! They probably started small with the intentions of looking into a larger map size later! I would say after the next big update is when they will push more into it and test it and we will find out by the time the next update after that!
Its going to be a long process but we will eventually find out! Later than sooner! Be patient!
Why not have both? As far as I know, 4J hasn't said that split screen is the reason worlds are not bigger. If they have, please let me know.
Actually ive been hearing it a lot lately but only from forum members so its not an official reason (as far as i know), but still a nice idea for a poll

the problem is not ram its they have to do some code rewriting to make room for maby even infinte map size
I would think this incorrect as we have fount out the xbox loads all chunks in and assuming its because of split screen! 4 people on at one time in front of the xbox, loading and unloading constantly and acting as sever for the other players on it via internet (max 8?) would definitely lag it bad! The pc is infinite because it loads and unloads chunks as you travel in the background! Isnt an issue with pc's as they can be upgraded to accomodate!
It was stated in that thread that the xbox probably just loads the textures when in sight. I dont think this is the case at all as i have some coding experience with 3d games. I know in most programming languages you set a max distance the main camera (your sight) can see! So any thing beyond that is not rendered! Its usually called render distance?!
If a choice has to be made (and I'm not convinced it does), then I would choose the 4-player splitscreen over the larger map. New maps can always be generated and developed as though they are continuations of previous maps. Many people get bored staying in just one world anyway. Infinite maps are already available on the PC. However, the 4-player splitscreen mode is unique to the XBox version.
I honestly like having a small map. I like feeling cozy and at home in my world, haha. Just knowing that I have a home in the NW, SW, NE, SE and center makes me feel safe knowing I'll be never too far away from a house. Plus I like the idea of someday having my entire map just a big connected series of minecart rails and cool buildings.
4 Player split screen has almost no effect on the world size, removing it wouldn't cause a noticeable difference.

Could you be a bit more helpful? as in like telling us why the world sizes were limited in the first place? and what is preventing them from increasing?
If worlds were bigger save files would get bigger too and Microsoft has limits on what size it should be at the max.

Small (2-4 player splitscreen available)
Medium (2 player splitscreen available)
Large (splitscreen not available)
That way, no one has to sacrifice their functionality if they do not want to.
