here is my problem. i plant over 250 wheat, wait for it to be all grown up, fire up my auto harvester, and only get back 1 stack of wheat and 2 stacks of seeds!! i dont understand why im not getting back more, i takes over 4 stacks of seeds just to plant the bottom floor.
Maybe you're overloading the server? You can only have what I believe is 200 floating items (anything thats waiting to be picked up) before the server deletes them. Try reducing your farm, or having pistons operate half of the farm at a time.
EDIT: please correct me if its more or less.2nd Edit: I also discovered that planting seeds on a dirt block stacked on top of ANOTHER dirt block yields more seeds.
As Master_Buttchin said, The maximum amount of drops at any given time is 200 so I would recommend you divide your farm into sections of 66 wheat or less.
i had this problem too and I thought that i had just ****ed it up. So i took it all down and someone told me told me the max amount of floating items. Didnt bother trying to rebuild it
i'm having this problem as well.. does anyone know if its going to be fixed in an update or is that how its going to stay?
There is nothing to fix. It was made to be a limit of 200 dropped items. It probably won't change unless you want an even more laggy game. They limited it for a reason.
I still don't understand how people could need 200+ wheat at once anyways. Even playing on a full 8 player server you wouldn't need that much.

"Can I climb that ladder can I make that chart can I get that deploma can I learn the arts,"
i'm not exceeding the 200 limit. i did the math and should only getting 120 at the most and i'm going collecting 1 stack and the rest are disappearing all together...
There is a lot of things that could be causeing this.
Flushing water could be it.
lag could be doing this
1 stack of wheat 2 stacks of seeds thats 192 not 120

i'm not even getting 2 stacks of seeds lol... i should be getting at least 120 wheat but i'm getting 1 stack of wheat and 1 stack of seeds if i'm lucky... like i said the rest is disappearing all together..

I'm going to assume you're using water to harvest. If you are, I think water has a chance of destroying wheat and seeds when it flows over them.
It could also be possible that all of your wheat isn't fully grown. That will drop the amount of seeds and wheat it will give.
How water hits the wheat is also a deciding factor.
From the wiki on Wheat Farming...
"If the water falls from above no items are dropped, but if the water flows in from the side wheat and seeds are dropped as if the crop had been harvested by hand"
yes i'm using water to harvest them and i'm pretty sure its all fully grown its all the same color when it suppose to be rdy.. i was using water before i set up my pistons and all that good stuff on a reg farm w/ fences around it an everything and it worked fine that way w/ a bucket lol i'm kinda tempted to just to go back to that way of farming that way i know i'm getting all my wheat

I keep reading this here, but I haven't seen a more official source. I'm not saying you're wrong. I just want to know where the info comes from. I told someone that I added an automatic disposal I can open or close to the collection area of my cactus farm, because of the 200 limit. I didn't want it affecting other things while I was away from the farm. Since cactus harvests itself without machinery once it's set up to do that, I can't turn the farm off. I can only incinerate the resources while I'm away. He asked me where I got the idea of a 200 limit, and I couldn't point him to a source other than hearsay.
If it is false it's a falsity that pretty much everyone believes to be true as I've heard it mentioned 100's of times. There is supposed to be some sort of way around this by transporting the items more than x number of meters from the location that are created. I don't know if it is true or not and if it was true in the Xbox version but the trick was used in a couple of mega farm videos I saw to get past the 200 item limit.

OK, picture me confused. If the limit is a falsehood, then those videos don't matter, right? Or were you calling something else false?

Thats Very True Try and make sure they are all ready to be Farmed before you take them down, Goodluck!
Once again the grace my post needed.
