I'm wondering if you can give items to a friend in one of your worlds and then have them join one of your other worlds and give it to you there? I want to know because i have 3 worlds that have diamond, gold, iron and other supplies and i only play on one of them?
If anyone knows please respond. Your response will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for responding. What happens to the stuff my friend took when he was on my world? Is it gone forever or will he have it when he returns.
That sort of depends on what your friend did after he took it.
1) He may have exited the game with it still in his inventory. In this case, it should still be in his inventory whenever he returns to your world.
2) He may have spit it out of his inventory and left the game. In this case, if no one else picked it up before it despawned, it's gone for good.
3) He may have exited the game by dying with the good still in his inventory. In this case again, if no one else picked it up before it despawned, it's gone for good.
4) He may have stored it in a chest (hidden or otherwise) before exiting the game. In this case it is still in your world someplace; unfortunately, you just don't know where it is.
Hopefully, it's #4 and he'll tell you where he left the chest or #1 and he'll come back to your world and return your stuff to you. If it's #1, hopefully he won't be struck by the respawning bug and lose his inventory when he tries to re-enter. Good luck!
I should also add that when playing in splitscreen mode on the same Xbox, the second, third, and fourth players exit the game without their inventories being saved. In order to access their stuff upon re-entering, they need to put it in a chest before leaving. (I learned this one first hand the hard way.)
This is possible, but it is changed in 1.3. I don't really have a computer to figure out how to do it in 1.3, but I know it is possible. (it's different because multiplayer and singleplayer are now the same thing.)
Inventories are stored in the gamesave, not in a profile for each player. Every player that ever joins your world who has something in their inventory, will have a spot in your gamesave (if you do save) storing from one, up to 36 slots of any item, slot 0 - slot 35. Plus the armer slots, those are saved as well.

In 1.3, I think it is changed so that each player has their own .dat file for their data (stuff, location, etc.). I am no 100% sure, because I don't have a computer to test it on.
If this is true, this would cause problems for adventure map makers.

This is incorrect! Its all saved into 1 simgle file! The video tuts for the game save hack for minecraft sjows them opening 1 file and accessing all inventories that exist amongst players!
The .dat file your talking about, i have no clue what it is but does not contain your inventory.

Can you perhaps explain why, just last week, I joined in a game with my friend's children, collected some items and then had to leave the game for a bit. I was player 3 in local splitscreen mode, utilizing my friend's third child's profile, which is not on a Live account. When the game was started, the online checkbox was unchecked. I was in a hurry and mistakenly exited the game completely. However, the other two children continued playing while I was out of the game with no change of worlds or stop in their play. When I re-entered the game (by pressing start on the controller, etc.) and signed in using the same profile, the inventory I had collected was gone. From what you say, everything in my inventory when I left should have been there when I returned. Any ideas?

Maybe it is only like that after you open to lan/use the map in a server, like I said, I am not 100% sure.
I just realized that this is in the Xbox 360 category (it is not possible to do so unless you have a flash drive and a special program, I won't get into it)

To put it simply; Everything that happens in a game is saved with the map. Everything. The world, the mobs, the items, the players, everything.
Think of every player on every world as a completely different person, regardless if someone plays on different maps.
Everything is saved per world.
The same goes for the PC version. Just because 1.3 had single and multiplayer merged doesn't mean anything has changed. There are programs that let you see and edit what players have in their inventory the last time they were connected (by looking at the player data that was saved with the world), but they can't bring anything with them anywhere outside of that specific map.
Fraid not... I did not grief myself when exiting the game nor could the two children remaining in the game have griefed my character. I accidentally exited with the full inventory of items I had collected and when I re-entered the same game a few minutes later, that inventory was gone. I was able to see them playing essentially the whole time I was out of the game and they did not access my character during that time. Since my character had the inventory on them and not in a chest, they would have had to sign my character back into the game in order to intentionally wipe the inventory. Nice try though.
lol ok the inventories are saced in the level data if you want to transfer items across worlds just load your guy with all the stuff you wanna transfer and then copy and paste the level data from one world into another i would recommend backing up your saves when you do this though because it might skrew something else up.
I believe the inventories are only saved for LIVE accounts. So you're fine on a split screen as long as your using a LIVE account. The host doesn't have to be a LIVE account person though.
So in my world, peoples characters seem to reset a lot. They will join after not playing for a week, spawn at the spawn point, lose their privledges, and clear inventory. Any ideas about this? I save a lot, play with many players, maybe there is only a small ammount of player inventory save slots?

I say with certainty that inventories for offline (non-Live) profiles ARE saved in both offline single-player and splitscreen mode. I play a lot using an offline only profile in single player and also play splitscreen with other offline profiles and no Live profile signed into the Xbox. Our inventories have never failed to be saved in the original "inventory bug" was fixed months ago. I also play splitscreen in situations where one of the players has a gold account... and again, all the inventories are saved regardless of whether or not the gold account is Player 1 or not.
In online games ONLY (where the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th players are signed in a "guests" of the gold account, the player data are NOT SAVED as the guest account is a temporary Live account.
