passive mob question

so i read earlier that there is a really low number for passive/friendly mob spawns.

and i was thinking is this the reason i have not seen any sheep is the last few days.

i have to friends that both have around 8-9 dogs each.

do the dogs count for the total for passive mobs.

also how am i supposed to tell them we need to genocide the dogs.

Does this only apply to worlds created after the latest patch? I've got so many animals running around all over the place I have to go on a rampage just to have room to work.

Dogs do count toward the total. I don't know what the max is, but if you have too many dogs then other animals won't spawn.

Yes tamed wolves count towards the passive mob count.
