First off, everything in this thread is pure speculation, absolutely everything, including my post. Nothing about what the updates on MCXBLA will look like has been set in stone. If the updates don't bump the world size, then I see no reason why they couldn't have fully explored legacy (1.7) worlds behave as they did before, while only applying new rules to new worlds. That would make the most sense, since new terrain generation, new biomes and new climate would not be needed, or useful. The PC game was being developed as it was being sold, and the users were on board with that stipulation. XBLA buyers are in a different boat. They bought what they expected to be a stable post-beta product, even if it gets expanded upon later on. I hope 4J realizes that, or they'll have no end of grief from irate customers down the line.
Second, I want to point out something no one ever brings up. This game cannot be expanded substantially with the current method of cache patching. Those patches are limited in size to something like 4 MB. That's fine for bugfixes, but woefully inadequate to bring on new graphics, sounds and features (yes, even on pixely, chiptuney MC). Expansions like 1.8.2 may very well come as DLC, files you can actually see in your directory. If that's the case, there is no technical reason for the developers to skimp on support for the worlds on which users have already worked hard.
Not certain how I would feel in that instance. Right now, I'm very happy with the state of the game. While I certainly want the additional stuff, and would probably fork over cash if the updates were paid DLC, if it was too costly I woudl likely skip it and just continue playing as I have been.
That being said, I DO remember reading a tweet where 4J said updates would be free. However, I cannot find a citiation for that source - so it's only my memory.
I know it would be close to impossible or impossible, but it would be cool to have the climate change based on the seasons. Like have a minecraft spring, summer, fall, and winter. Like I said its probably impossible, but it would be cool.
Also just my opinion, but the map size has to get bigger and way bigger at that. I can live with the messed up climate changes and even the strange terrain structures.

They have already stated that updates will be free. As for the small size for updates, it shouldn't be a problem, because most, if not all of the textures and sound files were released with the game when it launched, so that they wouldn't have to include them with the title updates.

I'm not sure if Arcade Games have restrictions on their update sizes, but I've played many games where Title Updates and Bug Fixes were at least 15MB or more. That would be more than plenty for anything they want to add to the game.

I think XBLA games have a 4MB restriction. I tried to find it a while ago, the only thing I could find was about another game company talking about the 4MB restriction being in place.
And I just found this for a different game:
Q. What is the difference between patching on Consoles and PC? A. There are two key differences between patching on consoles and patching on PC: approval processes and platform-restrictions. The former forces content to be finished well in advance of their release on console. The latter includes restrictions such as patch size (4mb on XBLA, unless you’re granted an exception), content, etc. For example, XBLA patches stack, so it would require anyone who downloads Dungeon Defenders to immediately download all of the subsequent patches on launch. So, even if we were allowed to update console like we have on PC, anyone who downloaded Dungeon Defenders today would immediately have to download multiple gigabytes of content via a series of updates, before actually launching the game.

Except they have said that the updates include what the PC updates to that point included with the possibility of some stuff being moved forwards. so we know what will happen and the only stuff changing will be anything they move forward overwriting something we expect.
And as for update vs DLC well wouldnt be the first game where they just had free DLCs anyway.

True, and I'm certainly speculating here as well. I does seem to me, though, that 4J must have obtain the rights from Mojang to port the game into XBLA through some sort of contractual agreement It is likely that at least a basic gameplan for doing that may have also been set down in that contract. That is, the contract might have specified that 4J would generally follow the various series of updates that Mojang developed. It may have even set down target dates for the release of each update and even possibly specified whether or not 4J could charge extra for those updates. Business is business, afterall. Now, no agreements are really set in stone either. The plan to follow the PC updates may, in hindsight, not been the best idea. Still, it usually takes some sort of negotiation process to change such plans midstream and, for the most part, it's generally a worse idea for a business to keep changing a large corporate gameplan just to cater to every individual customer who gets demanding about making changes happen ahead of schedule. The bottom line for 4J and Mojang is that they want to profit by their efforts. Yes, that includes a desire to want to please their customers, but it's not the only thing they have to consider.

thats not even speculation they have SAID they are porting the game up to at least 1.2.3 with the features from the bar, with some changes where required for the architecture of the xbox and its control system.

I guess I could have stated that clearer - I am speculating about what sort of clauses might be in the agreements that granted 4J the rights to do port the game. I'm not connected to either 4J or Mojang and not privy to any of their corporate business or info.
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm pretty excited to see how/if the biome around my house changes. I've left the bottom half of my map unexplored, & I cannot wait to be able to finally explore it!

I might load a bit of a world and do the same. Just for experiments. Maybe something crazy like deadmau5 That'll be fun to see.
i have to say i was surprised when i learnt minecraft would have a set size for its world, ive played a few block building game on the xbox and they have unlimited size, theres really no difference in graphics between games so im surprised they set a size, the only 1 thing that warrants you to set a size limit and that is storage space, i have a 120gb HD so why should i not have the option to have unlimited size ?
I also have a lot of spare HD space that needs to be filled with minecraft.

Agree. I understood it that they were just moving the cloud layer up to the very top of the map, not increasing the height of the map yet.

So I guess it is possible they could get an exception. It doesn't seem they have needed it yet though.
