I know many of the people in this forum have not played the PC version. they may have seen it in YouTube videos, in some pictures from Google, or maybe at a friends house. I own and frequently play the PC version. This lead me to wanting to bring up a point that no one has yet brought up.
(Before I say anything further, I just want to say I'm not trying to say these need to be fixed. I went through them on the PC and they honestly don't bother me at all. I just wanted to inform others who didn't know.)
Now, for those who want worlds to expand or to be added onto the existing worlds for new terrain, many of you aren't aware of 2 issues that would happen if this occurred. Also, both of these issues occurred on the PC version as well when new terrain was added to old worlds.
#1 Minecraft Climate Change
This will occur on your current worlds once the terrain is updated in 1.8.2, even if your map is fully explored. It would also happen if our maps were to expand from their current size by being added onto. Biomes in 1.8.2 will be reworked extensively. Some will be removed, others added, and some combined to form new ones. When the 1.8.2 update occurs, your worlds biomes will not be the same, regardless of if it's expanded upon (which it's been confirmed it won't be).
It may begin to rain or snow in deserts. It might stop snowing permanently in tundras and taigas. Water in once non snowy areas will begin to freeze. The physical places of the biomes will not shift, but the effects of the biomes will. Snow, rain, grass color (I think), will shift.
#2 Colliding Terrain
I'm surprised none of the PC players in this section have brought this up. At least to my knowledge no one has. We all know that every day, there are new posts suggesting ways to expand worlds, or people who want the maps to get bigger. This is another issue that would occur on top of the shifting biomes.
In 1.8.2, the terrain generation is being recoded. It will not be the same as it used to be. With the aforementioned altered biomes, comes another change. This one will be best explained with pictures, not words.
These pictures are obviously from the PC. Just an FYI.
If our worlds do ever expand from their current sizes and new terrain generates into your old world, the above pictures will be what it looks like. That is what it looks like when old terrain meets new terrain. This will also happen to those who have 1.7.3, or earlier, generated worlds and are waiting to use them in the 1.8.2 update. Any unexplored area will have the new terrain meeting the old shown above.
This is really just something for people to think about and consider. I've noticed people get easily riled up at the thought of losing their old world or having to start a new one. They then think that expanding the map would be a simple solution to overcome that. I just wanted to point out that even expanding the current map size comes with problems.
Interesting. This makes sense because the old maps coding will not be the same to 1.8s coding. I never thought about that, yet it is kind of obvious. Well they still could expand the maps, i'll still start a new world. The main reason people want an increased map size is because they don't want to start a new world, but my reason is that I don't think they could fit 3 strongholds, villages, abandon mineshafts, jungles and swamps, all into 1 tiny map.And it's about time you posted a topic Mustache guy! I've never seen you post a topic before, you should post more. The forums need somebody like you.
but my reason is that I don't think they could fit 3 strongholds, villages, abandon mineshafts, jungles and swamps, all into 1 tiny map.
Same here, I don't want maps that feature only a third of minecraft's content, and I don't want things all squished together on one map just to fit it all

Without the skin... Beneath the storm... Under these tears...The walls came down
I'm not worried about map size at all, I'm in the minority that is actually happy with the map sizes as they are.
My issue comes with the biome changes... Ive put a lot of effort into making a nice realistic modern day type world and I have a fear its going to have snow dumped all over it... Every update brings a new annoyance with this game it seems.

Oh brighten up, you don't think snow looks awesome? I would love it if snow got dumped all over my city.

It looks nice as a backdrop out in the wilderness etc and would like nice in some towns, but ive made an effort to make realistic gardens, roads etc and dont want it made invisible by a white blanket.

Thats true. Torches would work though, or any light source for that matter. I personally love snow, I don't know why

Well, like Zoe suggested from her point of view, it really comes down to one's own perpective. I, for one, would like to see pictures of a city-type build within a snow biome myself. Always have liked seeing snow as well.
Anyways, this is somewhat a concern for players needing to begin new worlds for these new features to be implemented. I will be of course. Then again I don't mess with the game too often as others may have. I guess for this reason, my "opinion" isn't helpful all that much...
This issue has already been brought up but it would not occur the same way on the 360 because the world is bordered by water. If the maps got bigger there would be one central island then the rest of the generated world around it (atleast on pre-existing worlds).
The biome coding will still cause climate change but the broken land in the screenhot would not occur.
The terrain would still look like that. Even though the worlds are still by water, that is pre 1.8.2 terrain. Where the water is now, may be where a mountain is in 1.8.2 terrain generation. It will still lead to cut off jagged terrain differences.

The land cut off really doesn't bother me for some reason and I agree with porkchop on his first post.

"The struggle of survival is a war without end, and war – war never changes." -Ron Perlman in Fallout.
The fix for people who generate worlds now in the hopes of bypassing the terrain in the coming update is to not only generate a world, but to explore it as well. Just create a world, pull out your map and run around until the map is entirely revealed. All of the chunks will be generated and saved and won't be affected by the harsh chunk borders from importing old worlds. (the obvious way of knowing this is the current lag the game experiences when generating new terrain but not when exploring already explored areas) Just throw away the map and you'll be set. Of course, that won't solve the issue of climate change. Personally I wouldn't mind having my current snow-less world suddenly experience an eternal winter.
I have heard of this mentioned before and it's exactly why I'm still leaning to creating a new world in 1.8. However, it seems to me that they must be doing something to adapt 1.8 code for MCXBLA. It's pretty clear to me that the 1.8 biome code cannot work as it is exactly given on the PC because the biome sizes would seriously conflict with the limited world size.
Hmm, that does worry me... While I'll most likely create a new world, I don't want to lose the old ones that I've worked so hard on... Hopefully the climate change won't be so drastic in my old worlds. Also, that colliding terrain is ugly as heck... But I've explored all my 1.7.3 worlds, so I won't have to worry about that.
There really is no way for it to be adressed. Biome and terrain code change in the next update. The only way to stop the two things I posted from happening is to start a new world, or 4J not putting out the new generation, which would be stupid to do.

Well I guess thats true, not sure exactly what I meant by having it "Adressed" anyway. Its just a shame that the some of my farms and other creations will no longer work on my old worlds because of ice and other issues.
Has the climate shift actually been confirmed by 4j themselves? I see a good bit of talk about this but no solid citation as to whether it will actually happen. Not everything that happened on PC Minecraft has happened on our version, so until it happens or until we hear a guaranteed confirmation from 4j, I will hold out to see what we get.
It hasn't been confirmed or denied. Then again, I don't think anyone has asked them either because few people here have played the PC version and remember these things happening. I know nothing about coding, but I don't really see a way they can stop it from happening. They had knowledge beforehand of the clay issue in 1.6 and still didn't fix it.
So I'm sure they know about the biome and terrain issue. I just see no way to solve either of them.
Correct me if I'm wrong (which most likely I am), but can't you copy the current version of minecraft onto a memory card or formatted USB drive along with your saves and have 1.7.3 forever with the same biomes? While keeping a version on your hard drive to update, of course.

That will do nothing. Once you play the worlds on the game after 1.8.2, they're biomes will still be messed up.
Unless you want to delete the update ever single time you play to keep your biomes the way they are. Which would mean you couldn't play online and your old worlds would be devoid of any new items and crating recipes from the updates.
Well im glad you completely missed the point of my post
Well, I didn't. Your point is that they planned ahead to accommodate certain things on the Xbox 360 Edition. I'm pretty sure they didn't. If they had planned ahead, there are things they would have avoided in the first place, and things they would have added from the get go.
