I just moved the gathering point and put signs on the hole and now it works as good as can be, Inventory full In 20mins, and surprisingly alot of string. the amount of mobs seem to push the spiders in the blade but keep them from climbing up into the blade.
I also had this problem. I solved it by moving my collection room farther down.
Old one had the collection room the same level as the blades. Spiders wouldnt come down to the blades and jam stuff up. So I channeled the drops down
New collection room. Also connected my passive mob spawner to this collection room.
No more jams.
A better way i've found is to use a mobavator. I have another dark room spawner underground (tiny compared to the one above) in another world that uses a mobavator and has never been clogged by spiders. This grinders blade can be turned on or off for some mass killing fun.
Mob spawn limit reached and huge frame rate drop haha. Hope this helps

I was up all night with a rusty hammer, trying to build a fence around these magic beans my dreams have gathered.
According to the wiki, spiders spawn in a 3x3x2 block space, so I can make my 8x8 spawning pad inhospitable to spider with the following cofigurations:

oooooooo

ooxooxoo

Where o=a solid block and x=a half slab
That looks right to me.
