What do you guys think 4J Studios will do for old maps that have been explored? Do you think they will increase the map size or will you have to start a new world? Or do you think someone would have made a map editor like MC-Edit for xbox and then we can delete chunks around our work?
I wouldn't want to start a new world since I built a legit castle that took lots of work and the houses around it.

fully explored maps will generate nothing and for new biomes or terrain features you will need to start a new world. partially explored worlds may generate the new features in the unexplored areas and for now at least the world size is staying as is.
If you want the terrain features from 1.8.2, you will need to start a new world unless you have unexplored areas. 4J stated that world sizes will not increase with the 1.8.2 update. As for map editors, I would not be surprised if there are some already, but that could get you banned from Xbox Live.

Then I hope somebody makes a map editor... somebody please!

...WHY!!!...
I am gonna be SO mad at myself for making a castle too early if some solution does not come...

I don't think they'll do anything for old maps.
Outside of the already present mechanics of adding new items to any loadable maps, nothing will supplement the items.
They've already said they can't touch old worlds and they've also confirmed that worlds will not be getting any bigger in 1.8.2.
You'll have to start a new world if you want the new terrain. Everything else, the mobs, the items, combat changes, hunger, etc, it will all be available to you on your old world. Just not the terrain.

I guess I could make a new world and have 2 castles... I just wish they would increase the map size but apparently that is not going to happen...

Me too, I also built a big castle that took me hours of work.
Hope fully we wont have to create new maps every time they update the game.
Oh ya, I don't really know how to use forums that well, so sorry if that quote thing isn't working.

I would have to disagree, if im not mistaken when you create a map the Terrain is generated by the seed, so a map created with a seed from 1.7.3 would not have the 1.8 features. again i could be wrong tho
You don't HAVE to start a new map every time the game updates. All the repetitive whining... this is the deal with Minecraft. it updates. it changes. it is never complete and final. this keeps it fresh and interesting.
Ask yourself if the features that are coming are so necessary to you that the current game is boring and hollow. If so, why are you playing?
The current game is quite fun enough. I've got two main maps (pre and post clay update maps) and a number of others (mainly to explore in the hope of finding a "perfect" seed.) The best part of the game remains the initial survival, exploration and resource gathering, before it moves into the resource-rich build-whatever-you-want phase.
The way people carry on you'd think that updates make their old worlds evaporate. Even if that were true, which it isn't, it makes me think of kids building with Lego then refusing to ever break their creations down and makes something new. Weak.
If the game is currently fun for you without strongholds, mineshafts etc then why is this even an issue?
Well said, and quite possibly one of the best responses I have ever read on this forum.

Seeds change with world generation.
Glacier in 1.7.3 will give you one world, but Glacier in 1.8.2 will give you a completely different world with all of the 1.8.2 terrain. Basically, all current seeds will no longer give the same worlds once we get to 1.8.2. Then, when we get to 1.2.3, it'll happen again.
I have an idea that I hope Mojang or 4J will do. You guys know that the only way to get the chuncks like strongholds, villages, etc is by creating a new world or by having a huge chunck of unexplored area in your old world. What if you 4J or Mojang make your old world unexplored again, you know when you check your map and you see all black which means that its unexplored, but the stuffs you built in are still in there so that when you explored again the world you will get the new generated villages, strongholds, ravines, new biomes, etc....

I agree with you. The only problem is that the world would be more interesting with the new generated features. But I guess I can always start over...
Seeing as how this problem came up for every update until now, I wouldn't think their response- doing nothing about it- would change. We'll probably get larger worlds eventually, but not now.

To my knowledge at least.
Edit: I meant complement, not supplement. -_-"
