Currency is used a LOT in servers, but since there is no bukkit we can't enforce it, normally it turns to ****, but sometimes it doesn't, many people use paper, but that can be grown and encourages sneaking, all of them encourage duping, now, what's your opinion? I prefer slimeballs, almost useless and hard to secretly farm...
There is no perfect currency, that's why currency worlds are usually called RPG worlds; it takes some shared-imagination and participation on everyone's part to make it work.

I dupe and gold is pretty useless so it is a good currency because gold looks like an actual currency and otherwise its useless
Currency in and of itself is entirely useless if you dupe, though. If you don't dupe, then currency helps you establish bartering rates and land prices.

Really it isnt because duping items isnt permitted to anyone but me and my friend who shares leadership. Its actually smart be cause the items that are duped are sold in stores. I dupe because I like the look of Iron blocks for houses because I like that modern look. Without duping that would be impossible
Sounds like the start of a fallen empire. Darm hypocritical governments tell you you cant dance while two-stepping all around you.
It for stability and they get access to duped items just at the cost of currency. And we only dupe for stores stock and currency which only goes back to the people anyway
Here where I live in real life I trade my garden vegetables/peppers for fresh farm chicken eggs down the street, why not implement the same in minecraft for yourself?
Someone needs diamonds then you can trade or do an IOU sort of thing until later. Not a set trade or currency system but whatever they need they can ask and in return?

Yeah, it usually turns to that anyways, a good CURRENCY system would be slime balls, hard to secretly farm, the only way to cheat is to dupe, but excessive money is obvious..
You don't have to have currency, you go for the perfect communist server, where everyone does their job so everyone will be taken care of, not for money
Players have the choice to barter between players or they can try to get a better offer from the bank.
The credit system is online so no player actually touches currency(this prevens duping and such)
Myself and my admins are incontrol of the online credit system and can check and change values when a player sells or buys from banks etc.
The rarity uselessness of the auriferous metal and the useful commonness of the silver metal even each other out into a nearly perfect system. 1/10 credits are restored when the bars are transformed into a Block for maximum amenity. If you or any of your friends occasionally want to trade, you can make a public Commerce Center. You could become rich by spending all of your time mining, but you could also still gain that amount of wealth equally from spending a lot of time with your job in your "server."
Something I have noticed when starting my new RPG world is that you cant have a free living natural economy in Minecraft for 2 reasons.
1. The materials for money will inevitably be used for tools
2. Materials for money will inevitably be lost from dying in lava/fire
The solution to this is the simple fact that you MUST artificially stimulate the economy. The way im solving it on my world is to have a currency exchange center in the bank. Basically, an equivalent exchange system. For instance, 3 stacks of wood = 1 diamond. We have that for many materials. This allows people two methods of earning money. Selling directly to the people(more profitable, but not guaranteed) Or selling to the Bank (less profitable, but a guaranteed profit). This allows the economy to always thrive in one way or another. Because this economy is artificially stimulated, that means the bank would need to dupe all the currency and save it in a vault. The only flaw is that the bank AKA myself, am not making any money. But because im the server host, my job is to run/stimulate the economy. So I have to kind of pay myself. I dont buy excessive things or pay myself too much. Most of my time its spent towards expansion of the city and upgrading the ever expanding city.
So does Ben Bernanke. It's why a Hershey bar now costs 1.19, but when I was a kid, it was 15 cents.
It's how the bankers rip you off... and in this game, it's how those who control the paper will rip you off. With a max of 8 players, barter works here. On a PC server with hundreds of players, currency makes sense... but on the XBox, no.
