So let me try and understand everything I have read. Some people are mad that people call themselves clans even though there is no competition or achievement to be done. People are countering this by saying clans are just a way to meet and play with people. And other people are countering this saying clans or the word clan should not be used if it is not competitive... Truthfully, this is the dumbest thread I have ever read besides the nonstop spam threads (no rude intent).
I've still seen clans for RTS games (StarCraft), sports games (Madden), racing games (Need for Speed), fighting games (Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter), etc, etc. I don't really get your point. Clans are on every game that has multiplayer interaction. They are not limited to FPS or MMORPG/MMO games. People just assume and generalize that those are the only places that have them.

I know right?! It just bothers the hell out of me when other people dont play exactly like i want them to. It's like hello, there is only one correct way to play this game. My way. Lol i still cannot believe people can play the game in a way in which they enjoy. It's called MINEcraft because it is mine. It is not YOURcraft for a reason. Some people man.
I think what is being missed here is this; saying you are in a clan has a hint of elitism to it, like it or not. I have 20 or so people I play with in various games (all of these people met on xbox) but we don't call ourselves a clan. A clan (correct me if I'm wrong here, though I never am) clans are essentially a way to give people rank over other people in the group. It's about status. You see it time and time again. People joining a clan are worried first about what position and rank status they get. Also, while not the rule, in my experience on live overhearing people yapping, it's generally the 9-18 year-old demographic that desires to be part of a 'clan'.
I will do no such thing. My last paragraph was the point of the thing, clarified again. It was neither rude, nor inappropriate. Well, I'll amend that to just "not inappropriate" since rude, as a rule, is subjective. And you were trolling because your post ignored the rest of the thread, which dealt with your position and countered it soundly, while also ignoring what the poster you were speaking with had to say. Instead, you repeated the same thing over and over. I'll grant you that you posted an "end" to that little spat right as I posted mine.
But, especially given the context I had on hand, everything I said still stands. You suggested that there was no achievement for an MC clan. THEN you said that, without them, they would all be gibbering 8 year old simpletons. First, THAT was a rude thing to say. Notice the difference here? Second, there are most definitely achievements to be had in this game and things to try and win. Nothing in your retort to me actually addresses anything in my post, instead leaning on you being angry. I suppose I'd be angry too if I were completely and utterly wrong and was forced to deal with that.
To summarize, I told you what clans had to look forward to. I told you, (in a general sense, I told everyone), that very thing in a post before you began on your "clans have nothing to do" speech. I called you out for ignoring everything that had been said on the matter, and I'm without any remorse for having done so.

Yes i see where you're coming from. Can I ask you a question though? How many people can play online simoultaneously on XBOX and how many on PC?
Console games, shooters mostly, support anywhere from 8 to 32 players at once. What does that have to do with clans? My friend runs a clan with at least 60 people in it. Lets say my friend has his clan with 3 groups of people called A, B, and C. then, another clan has 3 groups called X, Y, and Z. Group A can be playing a match against group X. Group B can be playing a match against group Y. Group C can be playing a match against group Z.
The amount of people able to play simultaneously has nothing to do with whether or not people can have a clan.

No, the exact post i quoted initially called you out for suggesting there was no goal or achievement for any clans to shoot for on minecraft. There are, more than I can even list in fact. Plenty of people had already posted that very thing. It had nothing to do with you being offtopic, you actually weren't. It had to do with you being oblivious to what sort of things minecraft actually has going on in terms of competitive ventures. Now, being ignorant of something isn't, in itself, a wrong at all. We all are, at one point or another. But this exact matter is something that, through myself and others, was already addressed. There are MC competitions all the time. I even gave an example of a popular one. There doesn't have to be a cash reward to encourage people to want to win. Plenty of websites and youtube shows host redstone contraptions and large build contests all the time.
There is a good example. A minecraft contest hosted by machinima. They have several seasons of material. All amazing to watch. Exactly the sort of thing a group of people might wanna get together to do. If you wanna call that group of people a clan, a crew, or a guild, thats your business. But there are, with absolute certainty, things to work toward as a clan in this game.
i think its annoying always seeing everyone recruit ppl for clans. Its not just the recruiting i have a problem for, its the whole Clan idea. Clans are something that are full of drama, arguing and fighting. Its something we dont need in this game. They fight over the most stupidest things too. Like people copying builds in their own team maps etc, then it leads to griefing, and more fighting. Also, we dont need all the cod kids migrating to minecraft. A huge majority of Cod kids are annoying as hell, they are dicks, and they like to grief. Thats 1 of the main resaons i dont bother playing Cod like i used to.
I think maybe it would be cool if they changed their "Clan.. or building team" to fighting group and maybe had wars in pvp worlds.. That would be totally fine. 75% of the stuff i said would go away. Sure, we would have people fighting over who is better fighters, but that would be in the survival community of minecraft. They would be completely out of our view for all of us who enjoy building things here... Thanks for your time.
I'm sorry, but NOT all clans are what you picture them. Many clans are friendly groups of friends who play together on a game and invite others to join them. Teams are what your referring to. Some clans have clan wars, but definitely not all of them. Either way, your going to have clans on any game whether you like it or not.

yeah i know what you mean haha, im in a clan for halo,but its a forgeing clan, so we don't fight or compete with anyone its just us playing together and sharing ideas.

Not all "clans" are full of infighting and idiots I'm in a small 5 person clan and all the guys in it are like brothers to me and we don't even play CoD we play anything and everything together except play COD(We're not fans) and every world we've strayed together has been nothing but fun.
