Well have you ever been in any clan before? Game specific please?
Yes. I've been in a guild in World of Warcraft. I started a corporation in Eve Online which is their version of a clan/guild. I've also been in an FPS clan that played Halo, Call of Duty, and Battlefield.

Yeah, they are.
I've still seen clans for RTS games (StarCraft), sports games (Madden), racing games (Need for Speed), fighting games (Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter), etc, etc. I don't really get your point. Clans are on every game that has multiplayer interaction. They are not limited to FPS or MMORPG/MMO games. People just assume and generalize that those are the only places that have them.
Point is, that without any achievement, challenge, or reward, i do not see a point in a clan. Take our minecraft for example, we play with friends, or a group of people to build, find, or kill. But there is no currency, or way to show off what your clan has truly built...(crap i gotta go here now)...because dupers can do the same thing without hardly any challenge (other than finding a few of what is to be duped). So if duping was to be fixed, and a currency coin was to be added then i do not personally see a point in an all out CLAN. And also since we took minecraft for an example ill throw myself out there, My group of friends and I build. So, we could theoretically be called a minecraft clan, BUT we have all been in clans before on various games such as : Runescape, COD, Silkroad, and Saints Row.
Im not gonna get to deep in this mud, before i get stuck and make a complete fool of my self. But that was my 2 cents.

I guess I don't think that clans need to compete or have a way to show off their achievements.
Most people forms clans as just a way to stay in touch, make friends, and play the game together. Clans aren't required to be about any sort of competition, reward, achievement, etc. Just people looking to game together.
Then why be named a clan? If there's no achievement in a clan, then that must mean its a group full of 8 year olds that run around acting all derpish screaming non-stop in the mic and building a dirt house with 30 different doors inside leading all to the same room...

A clan can be people who just play together. There are thousands of clans, if not more, on the PC Minecraft. A lot of them are just groups of people, who met each other in Minecraft or on the forum, that want to play together.
Peoples definition of what a clan is has become skewed by MMOs and FPS games.

i think its annoying always seeing everyone recruit ppl for clans. Its not just the recruiting i have a problem for, its the whole Clan idea. Clans are something that are full of drama, arguing and fighting. Its something we dont need in this game. They fight over the most stupidest things too. Like people copying builds in their own team maps etc, then it leads to griefing, and more fighting. Also, we dont need all the cod kids migrating to minecraft. A huge majority of Cod kids are annoying as hell, they are dicks, and they like to grief. Thats 1 of the main resaons i dont bother playing Cod like i used to.
I think maybe it would be cool if they changed their "Clan.. or building team" to fighting group and maybe had wars in pvp worlds.. That would be totally fine. 75% of the stuff i said would go away. Sure, we would have people fighting over who is better fighters, but that would be in the survival community of minecraft. They would be completely out of our view for all of us who enjoy building things here... Thanks for your time.
you are right about cod kids. But these people are called nzb not noob. Noob is new to game. Nzb are jackass that won't shutup about
things i very much don't like them they complain about EVETHING and quit the first time they die in a game.

Yeah, because those are the games I play the most and were games where I wanted to be in a large community of people who play together. Just because I don't want to be in an RTS clan, racing clan, fighter clan, or sports game clan doesn't mean those clans can't exist or don't make sense to exist. I just don't want to be in one.
People can be in one if they want and can call it whatever they want. Most of the people in this thread seem to think otherwise.
Lol, ok you win this one I have no more arguments left in me haha, I get your point, and I hope I made an impact on your thoughts with my words. Im off to play some mc on the ole 360 and enjoy my dip and drink a little sundrop. Night yall.

You are trolling, obviously I might add. There ARE achievements to this game. There ARE competitions. This game, in all its incarnations, has a larger following than practically any game out right now. I even mentioned such competitions earlier in this very thread. With the recent success and surge of players to this version, its perfectly within reason that even more competitions will begin to form. Clans of players WILL start forming to devote to creating the biggest, most intricate, and most innovative designs in order to win said things.
Your concerns have already been addressed, please stop trying to incite a flame fest with Mustache here and acknowledge that you have already been answered to completion. There is no further point you can make, in fact you already lost the point you were making twice since trolling Mustache.

Obviously you have not read my my recent post on this thread stating that i was done. Im not going to accuse you of trolling like you did upon me, which might i add was very rude, so thank you very much. And clearly you do not understand what the word trolling means my good sir. I was NOT trolling, to clarify for you, in that 1 example was that i was on topic. Im not gonna talk to you like i would someone else because i have no idea who you are, and im on a forum with rules. But lemme ask you this? Can i not express my opinion and fight for what i think is right? I was not swearing at him, nor being a complete ass <-- first swear word on the forum for me. Nah ok excuse my second sentence for a minute so I can accuse you of flaming and trolling. Your last paragraph is completely un-called for and I am going to ask you apologize.

I will do no such thing. My last paragraph was the point of the thing, clarified again. It was neither rude, nor inappropriate. Well, I'll amend that to just "not inappropriate" since rude, as a rule, is subjective. And you were trolling because your post ignored the rest of the thread, which dealt with your position and countered it soundly, while also ignoring what the poster you were speaking with had to say. Instead, you repeated the same thing over and over. I'll grant you that you posted an "end" to that little spat right as I posted mine.
But, especially given the context I had on hand, everything I said still stands. You suggested that there was no achievement for an MC clan. THEN you said that, without them, they would all be gibbering 8 year old simpletons. First, THAT was a rude thing to say. Notice the difference here? Second, there are most definitely achievements to be had in this game and things to try and win. Nothing in your retort to me actually addresses anything in my post, instead leaning on you being angry. I suppose I'd be angry too if I were completely and utterly wrong and was forced to deal with that.
To summarize, I told you what clans had to look forward to. I told you, (in a general sense, I told everyone), that very thing in a post before you began on your "clans have nothing to do" speech. I called you out for ignoring everything that had been said on the matter, and I'm without any remorse for having done so.
Unless you're ranked on a competitive website, there's no reason for clans on any game.
Thats a silly way to think. So long as there is someone hosting a competition in any form, there is a reason for clans, or guilds, or whatever, on any game. A ranked website is just icing. Good challenges hosted by someone with some form of media coverage, (and media in this case means any media, not just major media), is plenty of reason to want organized groups of people doing something.
Well I learned something about Clans v Guilds in this thread
Let's take my "clan" for example. We're numbering around 5 or 6. We're all friends and we all pretty much, more or less, play the same games. Halo, Gears, Minecraft, etc etc.
I think we went on Black Ops 1 on once, like a month ago
Also, we call ourselves the Smiley Grifball Federation
