CoD doesn't own clans. Have you not heard of World of Warcraft or Halo, clans in those too, although in Wow they're Guilds.
Either way
I like the term Guild better
There is a difference depending on what you play. In some games there are clans and guilds, the only difference is guilds are not allowed to start a war with each other or clans. They're pretty much the non-competitive, friendlier, alternative to a typical clan.
I'm all for competition and find it gratifying to virtually kill another person. But, in Minecraft I rarely feel that urge, all I want to do is build.
I completely agree with OP, it makes no sense. Why clans in mc?

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.

youtube Minecrafts Top 5 series. An organized group of like-minded players can do great things. There ARE competitions in minecraft, and they, frankly, rival anything other games can do to challenge a player. Being awesome at COD takes 15 minutes. The design and execution of some of the stuff that makes it to the Top 5 takes weeks, months....

This, and look at the guys from VoxelBox. Geniuses, I say, geniuses!
Why does everyone associate clans with FPSs? A clan is just an easy way to find a bunch of people that like to play the same game as you. (A bit simple of an explanation, but that's the idea.) Many of you say "Just play with a bunch of friends." I ask you, where do you get these friends? What if your real life friends have no interest whatsoever in Minecraft? Then what can you do? You can join a clan, as it allows you to play with a group of people that all want to play with you. Just do your homework on the clan first, or you end up trying to join a shitty clan.
I don't really have a problem with clans, but I don't think it should be so generalized like 360 clans are. Clans should be more specific to a certain style of building. For example, a clan that only does design. (fancy houses, mansions, and whatnot) A clan that only builds art. (statues, pixel art, etc.) A clan that only builds advanced electronics with redstone. (Computers, GPU's, printers, simple games, and the like)
If you have some random Jack-of-All-Trades clan, you end up with people that don't want to do what the host likes to do and either: A - End up with a hodge podge unorganized world of random crap. or B - Bored players end up dicking around and grief your world.
yeah and 1 thing i noticed on most xbox mine craft clans is that the clan world is full of random half ass garbage.
It all comes down to "I don't agree with what you do, so you should stop doing it". It's another form of trying to make people play or act the way you want because you don't like the way they do it.
How and why does people forming clans for Minecraft bother everyone so much? You don't have to talk to them, see them, join them, or even play with them. Just let them be. Do we really need to pull out the, treat others as you wish to be treated, card?
This is like the whole duping argument all over again. Are we going to start raging on people who play in clans now?

well basically the whole idea is different. building with a group of friends is different than making a clan. when a clan comes, thats when the competition and drama starts.

Only if it's a shitty clan. If you read up on the clan first, do your homework, join a good clan, you have no drama.

God help us if we find a clan that dupes and wants a toggle between survival and creative.
I think the general question on my mind is this: why does it seem to upset you so much that people want to form clans? Maybe people enjoy playing together across a multitude of servers and wish to have a name for themselves. It doesn't instantly make them a Call of Duty regular. I suppose I can understand a very low level of disdain for the idea, but it shouldn't be escalated to throwing insults at those who wish to do it.
im offended that you keep referring to COD players as kids..i mean really? cmon man, i know im just 17 so yes i am by law still considered a kid. What you should mean to say is the pre-teens still playing COD.
But also, even though i just dissed you on that subject im gonna agree with you on the other, in the sense that the whole clan system is a bit over-rated. Because, clans are meant for mmorpgs and online fps's. On minecraft, one can not simply go out into the woods and pvp rape a noob in the face and take his diamond sword his best friend made him, and since there's no currency in the game, there's nothing thats non user made that can be obtained. COINS for example. And there's no store to go spend that gold. No experience either so whats the point in killing. And besides if there was an online MMORPG version of minecraft with all these items ( currency ) everyone would be using a bow or burying tnt in the ground and camping. <-- probs on the pc.
Good day gentlemen, ima grab a dip and wait for a response.

Clans aren't only for killing, although that seems to be the general impression people have here. They are just a gathering of people that like to play a game together, as I explained before. They don't have to have clan wars, those are optional.

I was unaware that there was a rule stating that clans are restricted to specific games or genres.
Here is the definition of a "Gaming Clan"
"In computer and video gaming, a clan or guild is an organized group of players that regularly play together in a particular (or various) multiplayer games." - This is the description given by Microsoft.

Well i don't see to many clans in sports games <-- lol who plays those? But your correct and in-correct at the same time that yet it does not matter on the game type or genre, but it does.

Go to Google and search Madden Clans. You'll see that there are in fact sports game clans.
I agree. And on topic, may I ask you if you are in a : clan, guild, team, or group, yourself?
I, myself, have a particular group of friends i play with, but we are not locked in with each other, nor do we need constant help in the battlefield. I might add though, that my group I play with, is the same group that I hit the town with, or go watch the football games with.

I am not in a clan. I just play with friends I know in real life.

I've noticed that you have to do that a lot on this sub-forum.

Oh, I know, but I meant that anyone who wishes to do something on their world on the xbox360 seems to have to justify it. Not specifically him XD
