For 1.8.2, I agree, but when we catch up to the PC version, with around 10 biomes, with variations within the biomes themselves, villages, desert villages, jungle temples, desert temples, ravines, abandoned mineshafts, strongholds, villagers, and I am sure there is more I am forgetting, in my opinion, that is a lot to have in a 864X864 area. Either that, or it will be a lot we will be missing out on with each world.
I have seen people say this, but I don't know if 4J actually said this. From what I saw, the height increase came in 1.2.1 for the PC which means we should get it in the 1.2.3 update. I could be wrong though.
I went back and re-read the wiki 1.8 update list and I misread it as it states "Cloud height raised to the top of the map, so clouds can no longer phase through blocks." I was wrong... My Bad! But, at least we won't have the pesky clouds carwling through our buildings.
So when we already dont get all the existing biomes in our worlds all the time and the biomes sizes get BIGGER in the update as well as us getting more biomes to go in to the world... we will still be fine on space... erm how?
No necessarily I think if you have unloaded chunks new things can spawn there.
The game has been out for 4 months now. Who honestly has a map they haven't explored by now? Only brand new maps would be in the situation.
I don't have any sort of emotional attachment to my worlds that others seems to. Everything I've created can be redone on another world, so it's not that big of a problem. It really isn't that big of a deal to start over.
The worlds are big enough in my opinion, why do we need them bigger?
Because there's a much larger (infinitely larger IMO) sense of adventure when you're playing on an infinite map.
The FIRST thing I do on Xbox when starting a new world is... I walk the entire surface to fill out my map.
And so within the first half-hour, the only sense of adventure left in the entire game world is underground... which I just don't care that much about because nothing exciting happens down there.
I've had 2 friends already make the jump to PC, and I am in the process of upgrading my computer solely for the reason of being able to make the same jump myself. They tell me about playing in a world that has 30 huge cities with 120 players on the server at once... kinda blew me away when they told me.
There's nothing wrong with the xbox version per se... it is what it is, but for the $20 I spent on xbox, what I've basically learned is the fact I just stated. Xbox is boring, PC is exciting. Xbox is weak, PC is strong.
Besides, it's as good an excuse as any to get me to upgrade my 5 year old rig.
So depressing. What I really want to do in minecraft is create cool houses extremely far from each other, in places with very different climates and connect them by rail. And, here's the thing - I really want to do that with splitscreen multiplayer. That's the only way I can play minecraft with my fiancee that would be satisfying for both of us. We didn't realize the world was so small at first, but when we did it totally killed the magic of the game. He was going to go on a long journey far away and discover new lands, and I was going to stay and work on the house and make it totally badass for when he came back. But then he ran into an invisible wall in the ocean. What a bummer.

Exactly!! Just knowing that anything that I haven't found, isn't there really takes the wind out of my sails. I want to discover strange new lands and make them mine. But that's not nearly as satisfying when you have to use a different world to do it.
So if we can't explore to our hearts content in xbox minecraft, due to the small map size...
...then all that leaves us to do is build stuff.
Which is exactly why I've spent most of my time on xbox duplicating items via glitch... because someone at Mojang or 4J thought it would be a good idea to start at v1.6 instead of v1.8, where we would have had a TRUE creative mode right off the bat.
Kinda sad when the most fun I had in the game was by exploiting a glitch.
Cliff Notes:
Xbox is all about building stuff
PC is all about exploring, and also about building stuff too of course.
So with PC you get everything, with xbox you get 1/2 of everything.
The xbox 360 version will have infinite map size eventually, I hope. I can already think of a way on how to be able to handle an infinite size map (especially when you're playing with your friends on the same map) on the xbox 360 since I am a programmer. But I don't know how far 4J will go to modifying their code for this.
Off-topic: How big are the maps on the android/iOS version? I haven't played it much since I been busy with work.
Castle Miner has infinite worlds so why can't minecraft XBLA have them? I'm not saying make them now but work on it overtime to insure that it wont bug major things.

They probably have people working on it while working on getting the game updated to the PC version. We just got to be patient and wait. I'm not expecting them to have infinite map size until they have added everything that the PC has now.
In my opinion, the world should be much bigger because minecraft is all about exploring and building. The world is as small as the map, and if you cover the entire distance you will find your map filled with the same things, a huge mountain if you are lucky, and forests and plains.
If i can't explore, i don't know what else to do!
I think they should at least quadruple the world size, for more room to explore, search for diamonds, etc
I don't think it would be too hard. I'm not a game designer but how they have it set up, nothing happens after 32m(with mobs at least) and outside 128m, mobs despawn ( im not sure if you can see that far). Have it load how ever many spaces necessary to play without lag and over-restricted sight. Then with maps, make it so you can zoom and scroll if you can't already. It may not be that simple but that's how I see it.

I'm sorry but it's not being greedy to want larger worlds. Some people like to explore and mine you know and call them greedy for that is being pretty close-minded. I for one am hoping and praying that we do get bigger worlds eventually at least by 1.2.3 update but even if it doesn't come by then I have faith 4J will eventually make it happen

LOL Me too. I discard old worlds like used tissues. I just love to explore more so than build. It's just my nature
It's not fair that we must create a new world every time there Is a new update, In order to experience the newly added content.
As an example, me and my friends have poured countless hours into forging my world. We already have no clay, and very limited pumpkins have been found. There Isn't a single snowflake In this world either.
The thought of starting over makes me upset. When I purchased this game , I was under the impression that It would be similar to the PC version, and updated to It's current version. With the current map size , It stills feels very limited. This Is why I am now hesitant when buying any game ported to the console.
I'm not asking for infinite maps, just that the size be increased a bit with maybe each update. Just enough to get a chance to generate the new content, without having to start over.
I was very disappointed to learn that there would be no expansion for 1.8.2. I think we're going to find that things won't work as well as they should due to the limited map size. People are already having issues with finding things such as pumpkins and clay in their worlds, and now we're being given new biomes and structures. That's a lot more to pack in, with a lot more that will be absent from each world (unless you get really lucky).
Exactly my thoughts. Its just odd that there isint much news from 4j on this topic. All i keep hearing is "im sure they're looking into it" from people on the forum

It's the nature of the beast when it comes to these type of games. CastleMiner and the like all do this. Think of it as bitter-sweet. You get a NEW world chuck full of stuff, and all the buildings you made you can make again and even better. Yeah, it kinda sucks, but it's also a good thing.

The issue really only applies to people who already have established a world and do not want to start a new one.
