I'm trying to make a fireplace with a button, so that when pushed, it pushes up lit enderock to "light" the fireplace. However, the fire keeps going out when moved.

Netherrack does not stay lit when it's pushed by a piston. As far as I know, you're just going to have to light your fireplace yourself with Flint & Steel.
now that we are on this topic, does anyone know how to turn it on with a button? I saw it in a youtube video.
The only way I know of is to have Dispensers rigged to shoot Fire Charges at the Netherrack which lights it on fire. However, we don't have those yet. So there is currently no way that I know of to light them remotely, with a button, a lever, or any other thing aside from lighting them with a Flint & Steel.

The only ways it can be lit on fire is Lightning and Flint & Steel.
