I would consider myself as a planner as a builder, but a freehand "city planner".
So I hope it shows that I plan my buildings, but the flow of my world is more like "A windmill would look good on the top of that hill" Or "Here's a pretty flat area, I'll put a row of villager houses here." Then the freestyle part comes in when I have to connect them by roads and footpaths in a way that makes sense, or when I'm like "This area is pretty bare - It needs a couple of trees and maybe a hedge.
Nice builds. Can you work with anytype of builder? a on a join project
I never really plan anything out unless it's something massive and a bit more complicated. If it's just a house or any other smaller building I just put blocks down and see what I come up with. They actually turn out pretty good..... most of the time xD but sometimes I have my moments where I wanna plan it out.

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.
I have been planning buildings and cities on paper ever since I thought of it in July. Now, I don't actually change my creations while making them. Instead, I alter the written design. Playing legitimately gives me time to do this.
I just build free hand style. I like to make a small rectangular house out of dirt and then dig out rooms under my house. I have a storage room, a lot of different farming rooms, and a Nether Portal room.
Hello ;D i consider myself as a builder without a plan on something just stuff that comes up in my head. Im building Old style buildings. I never build with a shape really and i like small houses without a basement. i like houses that is fresh and not too much of everything and i like small oldie houses because they look awesome! and they are really easy to build
Usually the only thing I plan out is the area I'll be building in, then I fill it with whatever comes to mind. Most of the time it is free hand but stuff that is too hard to visualize in my head made of blocks, I make an excel spreadsheet, make the cells into squares like a grid, and plan that way.
Here's some screen from my current build.
Rainbow Sheep Farm! Had to dig into the ground some so they wouldn't horde in the corners and glitch out. And stuck a wolf up above to "guard" them
Entrance to my underground railway system that connects all the areas in the map where my friends and I build. (the weird blue lines on the right is a side of a building made of glass, and I think the moonlight is what is giving it that weird look. Photo was also taken with my phone rather than the screen cap menu)
Underground Wolves' Den. You can't see them all but there are 19.

I do redstone freehand just because it is easy for me, and I can do it easily; same with small-scale projects.
If I am doing a large scale project I like to get the general idea of what I'm going to be building and maybe do a few tests on the PC with tools like World Painter and MCEdit.

the kind of builder I am is a terrible builder. I prefer to build things compact and most effective and profitable/ useful, I cant make things look really pretty if I tried.
In my preferred genre of building, redstone engineering based on computer science and Boolean algebra, freehand isn't really an option. (Unless you want a large and inefficient machine with limited functionality.) My biggest passion is redstone CPUs, which I spend a considerable amount of time planning before construction begins. First I think about the general architecture, how major components will be oriented, what data paths will be the most efficient for my serial buses, control paths, what kind of special-purpose registers I will need to move information around effectively. Then comes the more difficult task of figuring out how flexible I want the machine to be, in terms of functionality. This mostly consists of designing an instruction-set, which will be scrapped and re-designed at least 4 or 5 times before the project is complete. That forms a foundation for how the ALU is designed, (which is the next step) along with address decoders, function decoders, etc. The last part of planning is designing components that will best suit your machine and compliment the architecture.
There is also the matter of UI, but I don't really plan this until construction is complete. It's kind of difficult to predict where your I/O devices are going to be at the end of it all. It's a long, difficult, and irritating process, (and that's just the planning stage) but it's all worth it when the build is complete.
I'm mixed. I've planned out bases and structures using graph paper and then went to work building. I've also just played it by ear and just did what felt right. I'm impulsive to say the least.
Can you please make a building tutorial video on how to build the wolf den you made. I'm trying so hard to make the perfect den for my wolves. Yours is the right one. I'm in love with it.
Well, I'm a little of each. Sometimes I'll think of something in my free time and do a creative world test of my idea, and iron out some details as a starting point. Then it may change as I build in survival, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. Other times I'll be in my survival world and I'll think what can I do with something and just start going at it freehand.
With redstone, I do more planning, and look at videos for templates. Just starting to get into redstone a bit more with the extra stuff added in.

Retired StaffHow did you even find this?

And My windmill I completed yesterday.
Oh my goodness. I like your creations. Very nice!

I used to hate building but since I started this really cool project with my friend I have started to love building.
