I created an island in the sky and I am now working on making a mob arena up on it. Basically, the top floor will be covered with a glass roof so when mobs spawn in there, they will die from sunlight during the day (that's my theory at least) and then you can flip the switch on the bottom floor to open a hole in the roof and release water from the sides to push the loot down to the bottom floor. This can also be used at night to push the mobs down to the first floor so that you may have a battle royal if you wish.
Anyway, this is my first major redstone project and I'm having trouble getting it all set up.
The room is circular and I need a good amount of pistons to hold back the water from different spots so it will all flow correctly towards the center. The main problems I am having is powering pistons that are sitting on the ground and are horizontal to each other. I can power up to 3, but have trouble getting the wire to connect to a fourth.
I'm also having trouble extending the current as for some reason the repeaters just disappear when I place them on the ground and are lost forever. I'm up at Y: 99 so I assume that's the issue since they place fine on lower levels. I've have to make sort of a double inverter with two torches but that seems to screw everything up when I make multiple instances of this. I haven't wired everything but I assume I will need to extend the wiring further than 15 spaces in multiple places. When I tried having two double inverters hooked into the current like that, it just treated the sticky pistons like they were normal ones and they pushed the blocks in place and they stayed there.
I'm running the latest update on the 360.
Has anyone else had similar issues such as these and is there a way that I can accomplish what I am going after or is it not possible?
Sorry for the long post, but it's sort of a complex situation. :/
How do you expect them to spawn with a glass roof?
The roof is over the top of the second floor. The second floor has a stone floor. They would only spawn at night with this setup which is what I want. I don't want a massive mob grinder type thing.
Can you post pictures so some we can get an idea of what your doing?
I'll try to post something later today. It's not nearly finished and looks rather sloppy as I didn't finish the structure yet because I wanted to get the pistons and such working properly before I built the floor above it and the walls around it and of course the glass dome.
I could try to get a picture up so people can at least get an idea of how I need it to be wired and such though as I'm sure that would likely be helpful.
If you're having trouble powering a piston, note that the line only has to go straight into the piston if it is on the same level. You can have a line going "past" a piston if it is beside it, where the line of redstone looks like it is just just above the top of the piston. You can even place blocks directly on top of the pistons and power a line on top of that.
I've been through extensive trial and error with pistons, so I have sort of a love/hate relationship with the ease of powering them. In this case it's an advantage, but in cases with many pistons in a small area it's a real hassle. Especially without glowstone.
Not sure about your magic repeaters, it's probably another post-update bug. I've noticed a lot more restone bugs since the patch, they seem to be very random too. You can load your save, and your whole circuit is just wrecked with errors. Ragequit, load up the world later, and not have one single problem... It's a terrible annoyance. Btw, that double inverter is still a repeater, most call it a "traditional repeater" it is what people used before actual repeaters were added, just a fun fact. You can spread your torch placement to lengthen the extension.
