Difficulty does not equal game mode. You're still playing survival no matter if you have no mobs or the hardest hitting mobs. Survivial is about making due with what you have in your current environment.
Those aren't bugs or glitches though, those are game mechanics. Flowing lava that meets water makes stone. Same as still lava meeting water makes obsidian. Same with automatic farms and the few laws of gravity this game actually has. (sugar cane has to be connected to the ground...so if a piston moves it to air, of course it's gonna fall...same with wheat and mushrooms. If you jump on wheat, it will pop out, same if you jar the block up with wheat or poor water over it. Those are mechanics...and they work regardless of if it's man made or not.
I don't think you can really call the door or ladder underwater a glitch, The game understands blocks within the game, and each of those spaces occupy a full block. It's like you can't put two paintings in a corner of a wall. The game already assumes that the block is occupied. This is also the same for water...since the block is occupied...water can not flow to that spot.
I do agree with the people can choose how they play the game. I'm all for it. I do tell my brother daily when he asks me to help him dupe Mossy Cobble that i will not help him. He says okay and goes on with his day. I just don't like the people who dupe, and feel that it's a right they should have regardless.
As others have said in other threads (now deleted)... creative mode is probably coming in the next update... and some people have indicated in other threads that they are vehemently against it being introduced. On those threads, I've also seen a tread of name calling emerge on these threads... and the ongoing allusions to "cheating" and even "a crime" (on one thread that has since been deleted) is what I find disconcerting.
Theoretically, what is considered a glitch? It's something defined ultimately by the developers of the game. As others have pointed out, they have not as yet fixed this one. In at least one case, with creepers, they converted a glitch into an integral feature of the game and they were met with great success in doing so. Like doors, furnaces and dispensers both already exist in the minecraft world legitimately. They both have a legitimate "logic" that happens to involve creating something from something else. (ETA below) It is probably (and I'm not a programmer, so I'm not absolutely sure on this), that "logic" that has enabled this "glitch" to exist and be exploited to utilize the item for something unusual - similar to the concept of using a door to breathe underwater. There are some glitches (like pigs spawning with their heads in your door) that are now just accepted as part of the way the game behaves. Also, in the real world, diamonds are now manufactured every single day. It isn't easy, but it is done and whose to say that this "glitch" couldn't be incorporated into an addition to the rather unique Minecraft physics that already exists within the game. I think a real challenge would be to automate the process so that the furnaces and/or dispensers destroy themselves.
ETA: This is a bit of a misstatement - More correctly, furnaces involve converting multiples of items to something else and dispensers involve tossing out multiples of items.
Seriously, how can anyone even have an opinion about how anyone plays a certain game? Who cares if anyone dupes or what not?
I don't get it either. Some people either have to stop halfway through a project, or choose duplication. Nobody is going to put hours and hours into something and just leave a partially built, hideous looking blemish on their world when the solution to finish it is so easy. Other people, like pixel artists, just don't want to spend 3+ hours chasing down sheep, hunting squid or skeletons, scavenging for flowers and cacti, and mining lapis just to make one small-ish picture that took maybe 30 minutes to build.
okay i thing this entire argument is ridiculous if the guy wants to dupe because to him its not about survival its about building. thats his idea of what the game is. and to me i originally got into the game for survival but its to easy my world that i strictly play on hard is so easy i just build in it. so just let him do it and stop carinbg answer his question and stop judging people just cause they dont play how you play.. i play gears of war 3 and people always run retro lancer while i hate retro so i run gnasher people dont complain cause i use gnasher and i dont complain people use retro.

Lab created diamonds aren't diamonds, those are CZ, cubic zirconium. That's not even a comparison to the furnace dupe glitch.
I have no problem with creative mode. I actually love it and use it a lot on the PC. It's a great way to plan out how something looks before I start working on it in my survival world.

Everybody uses the gnasher, sawed-offs are for nubs. I still use original lancer for accuracy, people get pissed when I pull the saw on 'em lmao. But I don't care, I'll fight dirty if it means bringing up my K/D.
Sorry for that completely off-topic post. I just had to say it.

Agree completely for the most part, although I don't have the game on PC and, therefore, don't have any access to a creative mode yet. BTW, I've not tried duping yet since I'm still enjoying figuring out how to mine everything from difficult ledges, etc. I'm generally not into fighting the enemies - too much like a zillion other hack and slash games available.
FYI, there is a quality of manufactured diamond now that is essentially indisguishable from the real thing. One concern expressed by the scientists who developed them is that they would tend to devalue the real thing (but, perhaps getting rid of blood diamonds in this world may not be such a bad thing, IMO) BTW, it might be worth keeping in mind that Minecraft diamonds aren't real diamonds either - they're really just pixels.

real diamonds will never be devalued by lab created. I wasn't saying by no means minecraft diamonds are real by no means, nor was I saying that duped diamonds aren't real, because there is no copy pasta in minecraft. it's either "this" block or not.
Just because it looks and may not be recognizable by the human eye does not make it the real thing. Like rubies. At walmart, we sell birthstone rings and necklaces, and if you order mothers/family rings, you can either get genuine stones, or simulated (lab created) stones. There is visually no difference. Most people get the simulated because it's cheaper, but those who are particular about there jewelry and want the real thing, only want the genuine stones.

WHAT!?! I bought my mother a necklace at Wal-Mart this year and that ***** behind the counter told me that everything they sell is legit and not fake. >=[ I spent almost $200 on a small gold chain and pendant, does that sound right for real gold? I don't remember the weight or anything, but it was a fairly thin chain.

I think we are essentially in agreement, but straying well off topic. I did specifically say devaluing the real thing was a concern expressed by the scientists at the time the technology was developed. I did not make any predictions as to the future value of diamonds. BTW, the issue was resolved by lab-created diamonds being laser enscribed to make them visually distinguishable. They are, however, real diamonds, not cubic zurconias (as was originally replied).
I think some of the concern of anti-dupers and those against creative mode is that having essentially unlimited resources will devalue the survival aspects of the game they enjoy. I don't see this happening since survivalists will probably still be able to enjoy surviving. If that's the limit they want to set on themselves, they will still be able to do that.
As I mentioned, I haven't duped yet, since I'm still enjoying solving mining puzzles. Before the insults start flying, please keep in mind that I'm still a relative noob at this, OK? To beef up the ante, though, I sometimes set limits on myself about how I'm going to solve mining a particular ledge (e.g. using only dirt, using only gravel or using only the filler blocks I can find within a 10-block radius). There are many different ways different people with different interests can challenge themselves inside this game. That's what makes it such a great game.
Wow... it's not often in the Xbox 360 forums you see a new member posting a complete thought, let alone an argument this decent. +Rep for restoring my hope for mankind.
Whoo hoo. Glad i checked in before i left this thread to the hopeless wasteland of closemindedness that each of its predecessors have retired to. Ther are just too many stubborn people around that have the mentality that their way is the.only possible "correct" way. It is frusterating, but a fact that we must learn to accept nonetheless. Some people will be more concerned with what you do than with their own life. Anyway, thanks. It is always nice to run into other open-minded folks with whom you can have an intelligent conversation with without being assaulted with propaganda. Good day.
People who use in-game behavior to project their "fears" of the destination of mankind and civilization scare me... Seems like they might be the same people who think, ohhhhhhh, I don't know... it's okay to kill a theatre full of people, or a classroom full of students, or random people in a restaurant, or worshippers in a Church/Temple/Mosque, etc.
Meaning, if you can't distinguish between Minecraft and (for example) Huntsville, Alabama, you should seriously consider surrounding yourself in padded walls.
Duping is a glitch. There have been 3 chances to get rid of it, yet it's still there. Thank you, 4J, for allowing us to "keep" the glitch until we get creative mode. For those of us who choose to play the game that way, it is a welcome "glitch".

How does the way somebody plays a game relate, in any way, to how they compose their thoughts into text on a forum? Not once did I say "I have lost hope in humanity because some people play Minecraft different than I do" I was saying a lot of new members to the forum, especially ones who play the XBLA version, are a few peas short of a casserole. (Sorry, but it's true.) Want to prove me wrong, type "Herobrine Sighting" in the search bar, click on any random thread, read the OP, then come back here and truthfully tell me you met a bright individual. Then, and only then, I will take back everything I have said.
And of course it's ok to murder all those people! Sacrifice must be made for the glory of the Neptunian Space Princess, Shianiwra. She rules all cosmic demensions, even those once thought to be controlled by Gree Gree Gore Gree, from deep within planet Nibiru. She demands sacrifice, lest we befall the wrath of the dreaded asteroidal death wyrms! These are the teachings of almighty prophet, Gary Busey.
By the way, they did get rid of the glitch once already. People just started using a different one, this happens with pretty much every game ever made.
There have been updates where they completely ignored known duping glitches. As someone who knows a bit of coding i can almost assure you that the glitches used for duping are easier to fix that the average novice coder assumes, and harder then the average non code money comprehends. Point, you ask? If the duping glitches concerned them or effected their bottom line, you can rest assured there would be a LOT less duping going on, at the minimum. Micosoft, 4J, and Mojang all have the resources(non duped tho so dont call them heathens yet) and ability to make duping a non option to the majority ofthose who currently use it. They choose not to for a reason. Perhaps because it is harmless, completely optional, and gives a number of their players more enjoyment. Is that really that far fetched to you? Im beginning to think you are jealous of the dupers "ill-gotte booty". You are to scared to do it yourself, so you rationalize it by calling users who do use it "wrong" and mking up excuses to fuel that belief. Holy endermen i just nailed the answer! The whole time it was right out inthe open but we couldnt see it. End thread. Solved tag pls. Well after you make up some regurgitated reasons why you dont even wanna dupe and some doubletalk on why i am mistaken(I am totally right). After that part. And after the other part where you switch it up to make it look like i totally didnt just share your playbook with everyone.
I appologize for all the missing letters and other typos. My keyboard is really laggy.
If the creation cannot be made through normal means, such as worlds using tons of glowstone or rare resources, then what's wrong with duping? If it's impossible, duping gives you a backdoor of sorts to achieve that.
Problem is when people dupe and say it is legit, and there are a lot of people like that.
Then there is the problem with all the duping topics on these forums, Pretty sure it is against the forum rules!
If your going to dupe then STFU about it and go dupe!
People don't understand that talking about this just starts a bunch of little kids raging!!
This argument is so damn stupid, there have been multiple threads with the same arguments. Neither sides are going to change views on it, so what difference does it make? Let the dupers dupe, and let the legit players play legit. Period.
Im all for it. I don't wanna convince the legits to change anything about the way they play. I prefer to farm my resources as well. Nor do i aim to encourage the dupers to stop. Why should they? I only preach equality. I had a dream. Where one day we will judge a fellow miner by the content of his imagination, not the source of his materials. But seriously, im only here to encourage a message of tolerance and open mindedness. That neither way is inherently right. There is no one size fits all. Consider me an independent mediator with vested interests in both sides. I want my children to grow up in a blocky world where "dirty duper" isnt an insult. Where being labeled a "legit" doesnt make you boring and old fashioned. A world, blocky of course, where players can accept eachothr nomatter what thier choice is.

If you dont care to participate in duping discussions, you can opt out by NOT clicking on them. Just like people can opt out of duping by NOT DUPING. It may seem like a foreign concept, but you dont have to say something in every thread just for the sake of being heard. Simply ignore it and move along. Some of use enjoy discussing the topic. Yes even everyday and even when nothing gets accomplished. Once again, one of the nicefeatures about (mostly)open forums is the fact that anyone who wants to participate in a discussion can, and eveyone who wishes not to can disregard it. You should try out your right to NOT talk once! I bet you find it soothing(as well as the majority of us).
Why do you hate me? Just because our beliefs are different does not mean we must fight in an Internet battle!
No, but really, this is getting off-topic. Somebody asked a question, and it was answered. THE END.
I agree. Lets pick up again tomorrow. We shall highjack a thread in which someone asks an innocent question about duping, then we will flex our muscles by way of virtual internet arm wrestling until westalemate again. Until we meet again my-internet-friend-with-a-common-intrest-but-differeing-opinions-on-said-intrest. Have a good night.
