If I dupe an object, lets say "wooden planks". Does it have a bad side affect on the game? Like will monsters appear inside my house if I used the duped supplies to make it?
PS: I'm not talking about the glitched blocks that you use AFTER you press "X" and put them in your inventory/chest. I'm talking about the main glitched block. The one that stays in your hot bar and has a number around 250 and is unlimited.

no there are no bad effects of duping (except people going rage mode at you) alot of people say dupeing can corrupt your world however o friend of mine runs a server and has duped a shitload and it has never been corrupted so dont worry
There is lots of trash talk about dup'ing causing corruption but I have been doing it for a long time and so have a lot of my friends on Xbox and none of us have ever got a corrupted save file... Infact the only friend of mine that has gotten a corrupted save file was one of few friends who doesn't dup... How ironic is that? I think the save corruptions are random, its happened to plenty of people who don't dup, but as soon as one person who has dup'd gets a corrupted save everybody points the finger straight at the fact that they dup'd...
One thing I would suggest though, just to be extra sure, is once you have placed the dup'd items into your inventory or chests one at a time using the X button, chuck your dup'd stack into lava or onto the ground and let it de-spawn before saving your game.
Once the dup'd item is despawned its like it has never been there to begin with :).

There is no bad side effects of duping but it is frowned upon to a lot of people
Don't listen to the bullies who might have you think that you can't play the way you want to. A glitch is part of the game as long as it's there. You are part of the game as long as you are in it. You and the glitch are one until you are removed from the game.
The dupe glitch will not cause weird things to happen or weird beings to appear. The dupe glitch is a great tool for speed building. Don't let anyone stop you from using it if you so desire to. If you need help... I will be glad to enter your game sometime and help you. I frown upon those that bully the ones that use this glitch. It really doesn't matter what they think.

Just because it's there doesn't mean you should use it. I've a katana at home. Doesn't mean I should run around the streets swinging it.
Really? You are gonna go there? Don't pretend like you can't see the difference between swinging a ninja sword around on crowded streets and making some extra pretend diamonds in a pretend game. Notice how one could have real life, severe consequences while the other only exists in a make believe fantasy world. For the record i prefer not to dupe and have only done it on some tnt out of curiosity and eagerness to blow things up, and prefer to grind/farm for my materials, but notice how i respect other players rights to game in a manner which is fun to them. It doesnt effect me so i dont try to come up with some rubbish argument in an attempt to force my gaming choices on others. Notice how i dont consider my way of playing the only way or the correct way? If you are noticing now, please try it! That is to anyone wiling, not solely the poster which i initially addressed. Live and let live, game and let game.
Bonus word of the day: ethnocentric(really hope i dont embarass myself by misspelling my own word of the day)
Just because you CAN get away with something, doesn't mean you should.
Morals: A person's standards of behavior or beliefs concerning what is and is not acceptable for them to do.
Becuase it's not in the "real" world doesn't mean all morals should go out of the window. Anarchy reins when people think there are no consequences. It's dishonourable and basically cheating.
Are there consequences though? It's his own world, which isn't real. Going back to your Katana, if you go out swinging, then you'll either be killed or go to jail for a very long time.
Whats the worst thats going to happen to him for dupping? MAYBE his save gets corrupted, but that's really the only possible conequence. But I've seen non-dupped worlds get corrupted and both of the people I know who dup aren't corrupted so yea.
once again, just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD. I know it doesn't affect me in the slightest if he dupes in his world or not. But this game is a limited resource survival game. you want more go play creative mode on PC or wait for it on xbox.
It's no different to making up your own rules in another other game. and doing things because you can. Where is your self control?
Me, personally? I dont dupe so self control a plenty =D
But why shouldn't they? Honestly if they want to dupe some resources and build a really cool looking castle, why not? If they want to dupe a crap ton of TNT and blow a mountain sky high, why the hell not?
Give me one real reason why people shouldn't dupe?

Really? In a game thats Tagline and selling point is Do whatever you want, build whatever you want?
Honestly if its my world and seeing that its just a game that harms no one, I should be able to do whatever I please with what I have at my disposal including glitches.
There is no reasoning with some people in the world. I fear this is one of those times. A game, any game, gives you parameters, admittedly Minecraft gives you less than others. Self entitelment is a massive problem in the world at large. The arguement you can do what ever you want with something because "you" bought it is a weak and selfish answer.
All I wanted to do was make some people actually think about duping differently, at how they choose to act as a whole, due to "no consequences". But nevermind.
I seriously don't understand why it bothers you and so many other people so much, none of you are in my world and all that matters is if I'm enjoying the game right?
Seeing as it was made with entertainment purpose in mind such as any other game, point being is that if duping or any other glitch available is something people enjoy and harms nothing why put such an effort of labeling it as bad and frown upon others who do it?
Is it harming you? or affecting you in such a way you can't play the game? Not at all.
I duped glowstone once. Well, I didn't, and that's the point. If you, like me, know that duping will cause your infatuation with Minecraft to take a dive, have someone do it for you (and only items you can't get yourself)! Then you won't know how and be tempted to do so. Worked for me. As for corrupting files, who knows. I'm guessing it won't as there is no real evidence. Sounds like the dup-naysayers are simply trying to put the fear out there. I for one don't care HOW you play in YOUR game. Just don't dupe in mine. People are always twice as impressed with buildings when they know you obsessively mined all the materials.
Kinda funny how some say there is NO chance of corruption, but then tell you to throw out the original duped item. Make up your minds!
The same could be said about a number of my bad habbits. They don't affect anyone at all in the slightest. And you don't care, why? Because I don't talk about them or ask questions about them. When something is mentioned It draws people in, they voice an opinion on the matter.
So what? Just because someone talks about duping doesn't mean you're obligated to insult them. You're entitled to have your own opinion on duping but don't present your opinion as fact or question people's self control. It's a GAME, you can play it however you want as it affects no-one else in any way. 4J obviously don't care as they've had multiple chances to patch the glitch so why not just look at it as creative mode a little early for people who can be bothered to dupe.
I don't even dupe, I just don't like your high and mighty attitude. I bet you're the sort of person who tells smokers how bad smoking is for them as if they care/don't know already.

I don't think this game is limited to being a resource survival game. It's different things to different people. It can also be about mechanization, industrialization, and management/control over an the environment. To me, it's more of an analogy for the moderrnization of society, which is not merely about survival. If you want to limit your play of the game to a survival game, then you certainly have the "right" to do so without being called names. Similarly, if other people want to play it in different ways, they should have a similar right.
Nobody wants you to apologize fo playing your game in a way in which you enjoy. At the same time, people who duplicate items should be afforded the same re costed for simply playing their game. And yes, since i purchased this game, my version should be played however i want, so long as it doesnt effect other pla d that often times developers and studios feel passionately oposite on this issue, but this is a topic for another thread.
Really l ike the post above mine about the game representing different things to different people. What if i bought it solely for the glitches? Are you able to tel me that i cannot do so? Also, all this talk about duping being right or wrong, should or shouldnt do X, restraint and morals is all irrelevant as it is all pertaining to subective topics. I shouldnt do X? That is not your call to make my friend. It may be be wrong for you to do, but that doesnt make it inherently wrong.
I said that in terms of; current survival mode restricts the amount of resources available (ignoring crops/trees and you can keep growing more of these), and then depending on difficulty level adds danger elemnts. not limiting in terms of how you see the world around you.
However, the game can also be legitimately played in several other modes (e.g. Peaceful, Easy...); not just in "Survival" mode. Therefore, the decision to limit the game to being about "survival" starts when a person selects the mode in which they want to play.
Each mode available in the game is clearly sanctioned by the developers of the game (i.e. it's not a bug or a glitch). The use of devices to automate aspects of the game is also a legitimate part of the game; but not everyone chooses to learn how to make redstone devices. The introduction of these devices was also not a bug or a glitch. The tutorial even provides an example of a cobblestone generator - so clearly, cobblestone is not intended by the developers to be a "limited" resource.
People can legitimately choose to play this game on different levels. Dupers choose to dupe and non-dupers choose not to - and both are exercising their "self-control." They are controlling their environment within the game by utilizing/exploiting the various aspects of the game... including things that have been interpreted as "glitches" (e.g. using doors to breathe underwater or torches to destroy entire columns of sand in an instant). Crikey, Mojang even states openly that creepers were originally a "bug" in the game. Embracing a "glitch" is not always a "bad" thing.
If the game company didn't want you to be able to do this, wouldn't they have patched it out? We got an update yesterday. Dupe glitch still works. Play the game how you want to play the game. How is it cheating? It's not like your playing against people lol

Difficulty does not equal game mode. You're still playing survival no matter if you have no mobs or the hardest hitting mobs. Survivial is about making due with what you have in your current environment.

Those aren't bugs or glitches though, those are game mechanics. Flowing lava that meets water makes stone. Same as still lava meeting water makes obsidian. Same with automatic farms and the few laws of gravity this game actually has. (sugar cane has to be connected to the ground...so if a piston moves it to air, of course it's gonna fall...same with wheat and mushrooms. If you jump on wheat, it will pop out, same if you jar the block up with wheat or poor water over it. Those are mechanics...and they work regardless of if it's man made or not.

I don't think you can really call the door or ladder underwater a glitch, The game understands blocks within the game, and each of those spaces occupy a full block. It's like you can't put two paintings in a corner of a wall. The game already assumes that the block is occupied. This is also the same for water...since the block is occupied...water can not flow to that spot.
I do agree with the people can choose how they play the game. I'm all for it. I do tell my brother daily when he asks me to help him dupe Mossy Cobble that i will not help him. He says okay and goes on with his day. I just don't like the people who dupe, and feel that it's a right they should have regardless.

So requiring "some" effort to make infinite resources and building with them in a world where you can't fly and have other disadvantages is wrong. And doing the same exact thing, in a mode where the game does the "duping" for you is okay? Seems legit.

Please don't say that. I think there is variety enough in this game and within these forums for everyone to belong.
