It would appear that there is one line of redstone carrying the signal up to each level. I don't know how much you know about redstone, but a signal will only travel through 15 consecutive pieces of wire. To make it go further in a single direction you have to extend it either with a repeater, or with a couple of inverters.

Seeing as how you basically octupled the whole thing, I really don't know what your build looks like.
The repeaters in that video are used as delayers, not extenders. There is a staircase of redstone traveling up the center that looks like it is giving power to each level. That consecutive line will only be powered to a certain distance. Beyond that, you are going to have to use some method to renew the signal.
