Im so proud of myself I just made my first real mob grinder. I had the box in the sky one where they fall and die. Now I have a 45 block high building with multiple floors and lava blades to cut those mobs up and send my drops down to ground floor No one helped me do it so it took me 3 hours to get the design down to where the stuff goes all the way down to the ground floor without a problem I'm so proud of my monstrosity its giving out tons of drops when I set it to hard difficulty. Cant wait til I play again later today I already have tons of gunpowder for my TNT mining
And mob grinders are a joy to behold. I've build one close to my tower some time ago, a 47 x 19 room, two blocks high, with a cobblestone slab in every 2x2 field to prevent spiders from spawning. It has multiple canals and drowns the mobs, along with a water-based delivery system for the drops. There's nothing better (well, at least not much) than going to the end of the "conveyor brook", watch a movie, come back, and have tons of feathers, gunpowder, and arrows. Kinda like Christmas.

Is it a chicken or is it a duck? - It's a chuck, because dicken sounds stupid.
I know how you feel, I made a mob spawner by myself too. I took designs from several videos and combind them untill it worked. took me 2 days to make(not strait working) and it had its problems until i eventually got it to work perfectly. I get about 730 items per hour out of mine. I would really like to see yours and for you to see mine. shoot me a friend request xGod of drifTx
I have one thats up in the sky, and a giant house (not done, and just a box lol) where the enemies die, but below that the hole extends down to bedrock with some water channels at ground level to drop those little pricks down to bedrock.
This all coencides with 2 slime spawning chunks at bedrock. so I can collect slimes and items at bedrock level.
There is also a ground level spawner near my house that I have half a grinder built, but Im trying to figure a way to get those items to filter to my main chasm.

I built a Mob Grinder 16 floors high, each level 4 blocks high. Each floor has 4 4x4 spawn pads. Then the mob grinder goes around 25 to 30 blocks deep into the ground.
That sounds neat. My current grinder is only two floors high and is just a gravity killer, canals direct them to a hole in the middle and they drop 28 blocks to their death in my basement/cellar.
I've been having trouble building a reliable grinder. I always seem to mess up with the lava, and it seems that my little trail of water cushions a gravity one. Before I start experimenting again, could anyone tell me if mobs can drown and if water really does cushion them? (in the current version/future updates)

Yes they can drown in water provided there is something above there heads so they cant swim up.
Yes water can be used as a sort of cushion to break the fall (water break) eliminated if you lower the drop.
