So my world was generated BEFORE 1.7.3 and has the update added. Yet, i can't find a single darn pumpkin in my world and I SWEAR I've checked it over a million times! Someone help! Th !
Curse you mojang... Ugh and I love my world! So there is no other way to generate pumpkins? I know we don't be pumpkin seeds like the PC version.
You bring up a very interesting point. We're getting 1.8.2 as our next update, which includes pumpkin seeds. The problem is that there is a glitch in 1.8.2 that prevents pumpkin seeds from spawning in abandoned mineshafts like they are supposed to. Even so, I suppose you'd need a new world in order to generate the abandoned mineshafts themselves. The only other way to get pumpkin seeds would require actually having a pumpkin, so that throws that idea out the window. That being said, I'm afraid there are no other ways at the current time.

It's cool to have random worlds and all, but the idea of a world generating without certain features is a complete insult and shame. All that time down the drain cuz I'm missing something important. Tempted to quit playing.

This thread about not being able to find pumpkins was created on August 2, 2012 (Beta 1.7.3). It is highly, highly unlikely that your world created with TU31 in 2016 would be missing pumpkins since, in addition to them spawning in certain biomes, pumpkin seeds can be found in mineshaft chests. For almost everything in the game, there are alternative ways to acquire the items or to accomplish the same sort of tasks if the appropriate biomes do not generate in a world. Many items are available through villager trading or as rare drops from mobs. Don't have a village... cure a couple of zombie villagers. The functions of many of the new blocks are somewhat redundant. For example, large mushrooms can be grown now either on mycellium or on podzol, so a world really doesn't need both a mega taiga and a mushroom island biome to enjoy that "feature" of the game.
Perhaps instead of being "insulted" that everything isn't found immediately at your finger tips and throwing away perfectly good worlds... try rising to the challenge of thinking out alternatives. Missing a biome here and there is really not as big a deal as people keep making it out to be... and doing a different challenge - like "treeless survival island" or "superflat survival" (where many biomes and blocks are "missing") can be especially fun. If everything is guaranteed to be in every world... there really is no point to "survival" at all... might as well just play in creative mode.
I'm having that problem with melon seeds and rabbits mostly. I've created a dozen or so worlds and have seen rabbits in only one. Melons I got by using the bonus chest option and just creating a new world, and if it wasn't in it, quit without saving and repeat until they were in the chest. Except for the world I started on now, has no villages, so no carrots (so far) so no night vision or invisibility potions. I really haven't had good luck with any one seed having all the basics for brewing.

Melon seeds can be frequently found in chests in Mineshafts, so I would not be worried if you don't find any on the surface. In fact, prior to TU31, they were not found on the surface at all, but now they are also now found on the surface in jungle biomes (often hidden by the underbrush).
Rabbits spawn in specific biomes and are subject to spawning distance rules. They also spawn a little more slowly than other mobs, so you may have to hang around within 30 blocks of those specific biomes for a little while before you spot them. Also, the white ones (which are the most frequent to spawn) blend in quite well with the snow biomes they spawn inside, so they can be hard to spot. Another issue can be the number of wolves that will also spawn in taiga forests. Wolves kill off rabbits and can do so very quickly, so you may have to keep killing some of the wolves off in order to see more of the rabbits that spawn before the wolves kill them.

I had heard about Melons growing in the wild but had about as much luck as I had with finding ocelots in the wild before and after this latest update. Now I have found them in mineshafts and the chests by enemy spawners, but never in the wild. (Or have overlooked them A LOT lol). Rabbits I saw in the first world I created after the update and I didn't like it as it was mostly tundra, with no variety. I have yet to see any rabbits in any other biomes despite the wiki listing more biomes than tundra for them to spawn in. And while I have found mutton and wool left over from wolves, I haven't seen any hide, meat, or foot drops from them if they are getting eaten. Edit: But I do not know how long drops will remain before they vanish once the animal is killed.
And it's not a big issue, as you mentioned above, it just requires more searching and investigating to find what you want. I didn't have potatoes in the world I am presently playing in, but got two dropped from zombies, and was able to get a farm going quick with all the bone meal I had.

I have spotted several bunnies in taiga, cold taiga, and tundra biomes. I have also seen one or two in regular forests (but I'm not sure if they spawned there or just hopped into that forest from the taiga biome next door. I haven't yet seen any in a savannah or plains biome (which is where the brown ones are supposed to spawn) but other people have reported seeing brown bunnies. I don't think that bunnies will drop rabbit's feet when killed by a wolf. I have picked up both hide and meat after wolves have killed rabbits. Like most drops, they should hand around for 5 minutes before despawning.
The melons in jungle are often very well hidden by the jungle undergrowth and can be hard to spot, but there have been some in virtually every jungle I've scoped out since the update.
Also rabbits foots only have a 10% chance of dropping a foot. The question is have they shown up in flower forests or desserts? the rabbits are actually based on pocket edition(which 1.9 is going to be to), so rabbits are supposed to spawn in every snowy place except beaches, all taigas, desserts, and flower forests. Where are you getting the info that rabbits in the console editions are based on rabbits in the pocket edition and not on rabbits in the PC edition? According to the Wiki, rabbits in the PC edition do not spawn in the desert... and 1.9 isn't released yet, so what it is going to be isn't relevant to the consoles yet either.
The rabbits are smaller than PC 1.8. and these quotes from the wiki page on rabbits:
In Pocket Edition, Console Edition, and 1.9,[upcoming][/sup] rabbits naturally spawn in deserts, flower forests, taiga, mega taiga, cold taiga, ice plains, ice mountains, ice spikes, and the "hills" and "M" variants of these biomes. They spawn in groups of two or three; one adult and one or two babies. They have different skins that depend on the biome.
In Pocket Edition, Console Edition and 1.9,[upcoming][/sup] the biome determines the skin used:
Snowy biomes will have 80% white fur and 20% black and white fur.
Deserts will have 100% gold fur.
Other biomes have 50% brown fur, 40% salt & pepper fur, and 10% black fur.
Since it is 1.8 still maybe they are fixing it to spawn in 1.8 biomes? or is it an actual bug?

OK, I admit I misread that... I have definitely seen a solid black bunny and a couple of "salt & pepper" ones... so, they must be spawning in those "other biomes" mentioned. As I said, I haven't seen any brown ones, but other people have told me that they have... so, that just leaves the gold ones unaccounted for. I think the mob cap limits are perhaps what is making rabbits less numerous than people expected (and wanted to see). Perhaps they are even sharing a cap with another passive animal, which would mean that if your world has already filled the cap with whatever animal rabbits share with, you won't get any rabbits spawning.
I decided to play some this evening. When I loaded it up it prompted an update. After that I started playing. Not far from my house, walking to my boat, in the desert I saw two rabbits. Then returning back home, one more. No rabbit's feet yet but at least I'm seeing some. Hopefully the update and their sudden appearance, being otherwise absent before, isn't just a coincidence.
Edit: And about a dozen more. But still not feet drops.

Ouch! Then how the heck am I supposed to make an iron golem when the update occurs?
Assuming that your world is pumpkin-free, you'd have to make a new one

I think you find melons in jungles, but I am not sure.
But about the rabbits, they are having issues spawning, but that will be fixed once they release the bug fix update.
