One factor to include in the creative vs survival and switching between the two debate would be to consider the way in which people use the game. I play with my group of friends cooperatively and together we have some massive builds. Each of us do what we're best at. One may design, another collect resources and another build. But many times i play solo in my own world and collecting massive resources takes a great deal of time. Some may not want to spend two weeks gathering enough wood or ore for a particular project and just want the enjoyment of building something in his to her sandbox. Some might not have the patience or stamina to withstand mobs while mining and become discouraged by losing hard earned loot with one sneaky creeper. Allowing switching between the two modes would only increase the number of options for all players, not just some. When I see some of the amazing builds I see other people have created it matters not one bit to me how he or she got the wool or wood or gold. The creativity and genius in some of the designs would never have occurred to me regardless of the dozens and dozens of chests of legitimately collected materials I have. I don't dupe but care not if someone else does. I'd like to be able to switch between modes to actually play survival with my friends in worlds I've spends hundreds of hours building if I want.
I definitely want creative mode but I'm not to bothered about the size of the worlds. Also can someone please explain why people want breeding so much?
In the next update, animals you kill will no longer spawn and sheep you shear will not regain any wool. Its a major problem since Xbox worlds are limited and it is possible to kill all the animals in your world. So people either want breeding to move into 1.8 or let animals respawn again.
The first one is cheating and I hope they never implement that but I 100% agree w/your 2nd option. I want the worlds to be bigger more than anything and when I saw that tweet from 4J a few weeks back it just gave me a good feeling like there is a possibility they will give us much larger worlds

That's what saving is for. i do it when I have important resources when I'm mining why can't you or the other whiners who want the switch option?
Exactly. I'm in the same "Mind Your Own Business" boat. If you don't like the feature... don't use it. But at least having that feature exist would make many others happy... so why force everyone to play by your personal set of rules? It's selfish.
No that's cheating and it's laziness on your part and the other idiots who want this option. i hate to tell you but there are actual people who play on Survival to build and stay alive and if you just want to build then that's what Creative is for even tho you should probably just play w/Lego's or something because it's basically the same thing except you have an unlimited amount of blocks which you did nothing to acquire. No that option should not be put in the game and I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way judging from the other people who are speaking out
it's new to 1.3, and is actually an entire separate option: "Allow Cheats"
you pick survival or creative, etc. then they added the allow cheats option which i believe can be used in both modes. what it does is enables the text bar thats normally only in multiplayer so you can do basically anything you want through console commands.
I just want creative because I've never played it before and I like the sound of unlimited items, but if people want to play on survival,I see nothing wrong with that.
having an option to switch between the two shouldnt be a concern for those that only want to play survival. Unless they lack such impulse control that even having the option there is too tempting not to use it...
And while i do believe there should be a way to get things like clay, even though that was supposed to be fixed, this is not the way to go about doing it. None of them realize how much it would take away from the game.
That was unnecessarily hostile (I did not quote the worst part).
But please, do elaborate on how much it would take away from the game. Would it take MORE away from the game than, say, not having ANY sugar cane on your map? Because, I'd think that would be pretty detrimental. No sugar, no paper, no books, no bookshelves, no cakes, no cookies... And just because a feature exists, doesn't mean you are forced to use it.
The Dupe Glitch still exists and yet, there are those that choose not to use it. I used it, but ONLY to dupe things that I was going to run out of... ie: clay (since I was able to find a small amount on a pre-bugfix world). I absolutely refuse to use it on diamonds, gold, iron or anything like that, because I realize there is fun in finding that stuff on my own. I know it would break my game enjoyment... so I can CHOOSE not to do something.
You are under the assumption that just because an option exists, an option that could fix worlds spawned without certain items due to the Xbox's limitations, that everyone will just automatically use it and ruin their games. Sorry, but I like mining. I like building. I like exploring. I like finding rare items. I like fighting monsters. I don't like the thought of never having cats on my world or melons or giant mushrooms or villages. That would be game breaking for me... to have all my hard work wasted because I'd either have to start from scratch or live without them.
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Agreed. Wish they would at least make the maps somewhat larger. Me and my friends have put hours into our world, and the thought of starting over to get new update features makes me upset. I still have no clay.
The first one is cheating and I hope they never implement that but I 100% agree w/your 2nd option.
I don't care about the creative/survival toggle switch. In fact, I don't care about creative at all. If it comes I might use it to make an epic world, even if it doesn't I'll still have my current build which is 100% dupe free.
What I don't understand is how you can assert that it is possible to "cheat" in a game with no rules. It's not like I'm even competing with anyone. Saying using creative mode is cheating is like saying shovelling sand from one part of the beach to where you're buidling your sandcastle is cheating - nvrmnd there are no rules for building a sandcastle, saying that I cheated by doing so is nonesense.
Look, suppose I want to build an RPG world where I and my friends can meet and go spelunking, if I create all the structures we need to support such an effort topside in creative mode, and I define the game as being whoever has the most diamonds after x weeks, how can you say that building the structures topside was cheating?
There is such a thing called "downloadable content." If no one is there to buy DLC, 4J Studios stops getting money to make updates. If that happens, this game will eventually become abandoned. THAT is why I care.
Minecraft has a cult following, a few people getting bored because they "over used" creative mode in a sandbox game (which is to be played however the player wants to play) is not going to be enough to stop 4J from making DLC. With over 3million copies sold or whatever the number is now there are plenty of people to buy DLC if even half of the people who purchased the game bail.
That's what saving is for. i do it when I have important resources when I'm mining why can't you or the other whiners who want the switch option?
What's not cheating about saving a game before you die, losing everything and then restarting a save before you died? HMMM? Explain that please. We are not whining, we would just like the option to build something quickly. Some of us have lives and can't afford to sit down for 20 hours to mine all the blocks necessary to play the game the way we want to, which is why we bought it. Not to conform to this petty and quite childish "I'm better than you" argument because you spent three days mining in a cave in a VIDEO GAME. Grow up, your not any better because you mined your blocks, it just means you have more time to kill then others.
Again explain how one can cheat in a sandbox game? I hate to tell you but there are actual people who play this game to have fun, with the ability to build some fun pvp maps or adventure maps to then switch over to survival and play through with friends. But since you've never played the PC version you obviously never had the opportunity to do so and the enjoyment that can be had with it.
I still don't understand what the big deal is with regards to duping/switchable creative mode? If you don't want them in your world then fine, I agree 100% that it should be optional. However just because you don't want them why does it mean that it is the big bad evil and nobody should have it?
I don't think that anyone has gone against this idea just because they want no one else to have it.
How other people play does effect your game? Minecraft is as non-competitive as it gets when it comes to games so who cares if some people enjoy just building and others like to mine all the stuff first?
Is that everybody's argument? Let's say that I want the option for Steve to become Adolf Hitler, and he commands the Nazi army, killing millions of Jewish people. If that feature is not added by 4J Studios, that means they care about the way I play for no reason whatsoever! It is just an option, like the hundreds of others made for Minecraft every day, so it should 100% be added!
I work 45+ hours a week and have 2 kids.
That is wonderful.
I don't get that much time to play so I would love to have the option of being able to switch on creative mode and mess about building for a few hours rather than wasting a week of what little free time I have gathering resources to do exactly the same thing. Other times though I might like the idea of spending some timing expanding my mine and looking for diamonds so why shouldn't I have the option to switch it on and off just because you don't like playing that way)?
You could have two different worlds; one Creative, one Survival. By the way, since you mentioned kids, I thought you were going to make some sad story on how sad they were about that. Thank you for not doing so.
Me playing my game in my way in no way effects how you are playing yours so whats the big deal?
My big deal is repetitive arguments that do not even make sense.
As another example. I'm currently working on an underwater city and I'm exploiting the hell out of the duping glitch to do it. If I didn't I would still be trying to gather enough sand to clear out the space in the water of my first building and the only small patch of sand biome I have on my current map would look terrible.
That is what Creative Mode is for.
Would it be more impressive if I collected the resources myself, maybe, if you think that showing you have enough time to collect 8000 blocks of sand and enough coal to smelt 4000 blocks into glass is impressive it is but personally I don't care how people got the resources to build things. Don't get me wrong I appreciate it when people do amazing things with limited resources but I can still appreciate that if other people are doing things with unlimited resources as well.
I agree that if used as an argument, the "effort placed matters" defense gets down to opinion. However, I must ask something that shows our differences in beliefs. Whenever you look at a great legitimate build, do you feel that it would be any less awesome if it was completely made in Creative Mode? I mean, if it felt the same in both modes when finished, I think that everyone would make huge creations in CM.
I respect your opinion, and I also have something to say about the duping glitch: I don't care.
Seriously, why should I care about whether or not someone uses it? Does it affect me in any way? No, it doesn't. Thus everyone is free to use the duping glitch as much or little, if at all, as they like.
I used to feel the same way until I entered into a few people's worlds that duped and had my leaderboard stats reset drastically. Now, I am not saying this is a huge deal but it was something that was nice to check now and again to see how all my hard work in Survival was adding up. So, it does and can affect anyone (even non-dupers), so the only solution is to just not enter duper worlds now for me. Also, another issue that I have seen happen is a world that was created with multiplay in mind was lost (save corrupted) because you can not watch everyone, every minute when they are in the world and they duped even though it was explained no duping was allowed. So again, dupers can effect others, especially those of us that want to play with others and not be stuck to just playing by ourselves only.

Exactly. I had to crumple up & throw away a map I'd spent weeks on, just because some dupers piggybacked in (friends of a friend of a friend, before the update) and duped a bunch of stuff secretly on day 3, and I didn't know it for weeks.
Personally, I have no use for creative other than a flat map I can test out redstone circuits on & maybe try out building designs before I really build them. If there were a "toggle", I might even use it to make adventure-type maps for friends & set up scenarios. I can actually see the use of that. It'd be one-way only for me though...
If other people want to chicken out and switch to Creative from Survival, fine. What do I care? I'm not going to be playing with that kind of person anyway.
...but 4J, please, for God's sake, fix that dupe glitch so I can let other people onto my maps without being paranoid.
My big deal is repetitive arguments that do not even make sense.
How does that argument not make sense? If it's a option that can be toggled then you can use it if you want, don't use it if you don't want to. It's actually and very cut and dry argument. The argument that doesn't make sense to me is why you care if this feature is in the game? It's on the pc version if you play multi-player via /gamemode () to change the game mode from survival to creative, and now with the recent 1.3 update you can do it in single player as well. So obviously if it was important enough to be put in the pc version, there is a good enough reason to have it in the xbox version as well.
I respect your opinion, and I also have something to say about the duping glitch: I don't care.
Seriously, why should I care about whether or not someone uses it? Does it affect me in any way? No, it doesn't. Thus everyone is free to use the duping glitch as much or little, if at all, as they like.
The very thing Minecraft is about is freedom of choice in how you want to play it. Want to play hardcore survivial? Go ahead. Want to just build thing? Go ahead. Want to mix those two styles up? You guessed it - Go ahead!
GOD I wish I could "Up Vote" this about 40,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times....
I don't get why SO MANY people get so hung up on how other people SHOULD play the game.
These must be the same people who hate camping/tubing/spawn trapping/ballistic vest-wearers/rocket launchers/random grenaders on MW3.... ie, if you don't play the game the EXACT way they do, you're "cheating/garbage/homosexual".
