You will be able to use Minrecraft on your next gen Xbox if you get one. When you buy an Arcade game, you're not actually purchasing the software, you're just purchasing a license to download and use it. If you get a new Xbox, recover your account on it, and then go to games you've already downloaded on your account before, you'll see that you have permission to download it again for free (provided you're not switching Xboxes so much that MS gets suspicious and bans you). Now, seeing as the current LIVE network is still being integrated into Windows Phones and Windows 8, it's safe to say that we'll still have the same LIVE network on the next gen Xbox. Therefore, your license will still be valid all the same.
Nothing to worry about.
Though it is possible there might be some licensing fee to pay since it will be new hardware. Similar to where you had to pay a licensing fee to play Rock Band songs on Rock Band 2.

Possibly. I still doubt it, but either way we won't have to outright buy the game all over again.

I don't think it will happen either, but you never know. And to answer OP's question(s), I honestly don't think it will take that long to catch up to the PC version(or at least get to 1.2.3). Even if the next console comes out next year, it won't be until the holiday time, and I think that the Xbox 360 version will be at 1.2.3 by the end of the year, or at the latest in January. That will be plenty of time for me to enjoy all the aspects of the game that I really want to try out. I don't expect to have to buy the game again, unless they release a bigger version specifically for the next Xbox. In which case people are going to be whining about not getting it for free, just like some PC people did for this version.
I have thought about this problem rather deeply, but you are all ignoring the fact that they might need to remake it to be more powerful and capible on the xbox 720. That means they will need to pay employees and all the other costs. I might be wrong about how hard it is to change the coding to make it more powerful, but what they might do is make us pay a slight cost for the upgraded specs. I would say 5 dollars is the limit before a riot occurs. Also, the xbox might work completely differently then the xbox 360. If it costs them money to change it to work on the xbox 720, I wouldn't mind giving them a little money for their work.
while im sure that all 360 arcade games will be playable on the next system, if they made a new minecraft specifically for the next gen system, with vastly upgraded features( infinite maps, larger capacity for multiplayer games, etc) , id buy it on day 1.

Like I said in my previous post, I hope they do something like this, but only charge us a transfer fee. In other words, they give us a discount for supporting the game on a previous console. Maybe 50 percent of. Skins and texture packs better be transferable though...
Plan on playing MC on your xbox 360 as they said the lifespan of the 360 is 10 years. Even though on year 9 they might release a brand new xbox but unless you got $600 to spend on a new console it may not be worth it . The version they built for xbox 360 isnt going to get any broader in terms of map size regardless of what version of console its on. They may potentially release a DC for the newest console to expand the features but imagine most people wont buy it as the "fad" of MC on xbox will be over.
I have over 500 bucks in DL content or better and I am not interested in buying it all over again not one thin dime of it or even a transfer fee Microsoft Corp can go pound concrete with their face
