Only thing i can think that might help is going different directions and finding out at what points you cant hear them, so then you can narrow it down to 1 possible direction. Personally id leave it and continue wandering the cave, you might come across the entrance by chance.
FOUND IT!
I actually dug out my map and wrote down the x and z coordinates where I heard the loudest spider sounds. Then went to the surface and found those coordinates and dug straight down. Nothing. I went a little to the left of that position and blammo! Spider spawner. But, sadly, no chest.
Now I'm hearing zombie sounds nearby...

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
On my first world in minecraft, I found a zombie dungeon right next to the entrance to my first cave, another one while digging through a hill for the On A Rail Achievement. I also found a spider spawner out in the open on the beach, which I walked past several times thinking it was a small ditch.
I've found two spawners, both at the bottom of small natural caves. The first, a zombie spawner that could have been a perfect infinite feather source, I blew up with a creeper (don't ask) before I knew what it was. I then went several months before finding another. I built a wonderful deadfall grinder, only to find out that it was a spider spawner (YAWN!)
I've explored literally hundreds of kilometers of natural caves down around y-16 and never found one. It must be your seed that determines quantity.
Turtle beaches help loads for this, they do a great job of telling directions. Another thing that I tend to do and end up finding loads (Me and my girl found 4 in 1 hour, 3 zombie 1 skeleton) is just going down to diamond level (16 and under) I find around 12 to be good. Build a little room and then make long tunnels through the sides of the initial tunnels, be sure to leave 2 blocks in between each tunnel, and just keep digging until you begin to hear a lot of grunts or bones moving, you then potentially have found yourself a spawner
They can also be found in very shady areas! My first dungeon was in a room behind a waterfal,l behind gravel where their was a 2 block gap which led straight in to a dungeon!
