Now, now. I know what you are all thinking; I'm very opinionated and seemingly redundant for doing this, but I just want to preach a little about duplication.
People come here all the time with these builds that they have created, mainly by duplication.
And there is a common debate over the fact that "legitimacy" makes a build exponentially more impressive.
I agree with this wholeheartedly, and I'll show you why.
First, here's a chart explaining my thoughts.
Building from Scratch
Your time is more well-spent. You have put the work into a project, and coming out of it, you know that you were dedicated and patient enough to put energy and time into something that turns out exactly how you want it. People see that, too. This goes beyond Minecraft. This lesson is helpful in life as well.
It gives you a sense of completion and accomplishment. When you work in Creative, it feels like "just another build". By naming your project, laying out the base work, going through each step properly, and executing, it just feels right.
For some reason, illegitimate acquirements of resources is viewed as immature and lazy. This stigma isn't pinned on you if you start your own world and do everything yourself.
Duplication
First and foremost, duplication can lead to corruption and glitches in the game files. Let's get that out of the way.
The fact that you aren't dedicating your time and your hard-earned resources into the world can lead to laziness. ("Hey, I have another fifteen stacks of 64 in my chest. I can be reckless because I have enough to replace this or fix it if I need to.") straight-edged boxes. Single-block structures. Repeated designs that you've seen a million times.
These builds tend to have an overkill amount of diamonds and gold and glowstone and other impossible-to-get numbers of rare things. This can lead to an ugly, generic look.
Okay. Just wanted to drop some wisdom on the topic. Post your thoughts below.
{{ EDIT: If one of you can show me where I said "it's not okay if you duplicate", I'll show you a green monkey throwing spoons at a refrigerator. Never happened. }}
I guess it just varies on your leniency to one particular side of building structures. I for one prefer legitimacy because I feel much more accomplished knowing I spent all my hard work and creativity to develop something I feel is a masterpiece. I don't mind duping, but it seems like a lazier approach. Yes, you get all the unlimited resources you want, but where's the fun in that? I enjoy having to mine what I need, and working with what I got versus knowing I have unlimited everything and the only thing stopping me is my creativity. Not to say that I challenge that, but it's reality. Hard work pays off in the real world - nobody is going to give you a box of everything you will ever need in life and say "Get to work".
If people want to dupe, they're free to do so at their own risk. I really don't care if they do or don't. If they make an amazing creation that is duped, I could care less that they did. The fact that they have that good of architecture is enough for me to give them props. However if someone else makes an equivalent creation that is "legit", then more props to him/her. Let people play the game how they want to.
I personally cannot wait til creative mode comes along so people will stop these silly "dupe vs legit" debates. I just hope it doesn't evolve in to "survival vs creative" ones.

Props on being literate unlike 1,529,302,775 other people in this sub-forum.
But yeah, I like where you're going with that. Very true.
Czech out those examples if you're Hungary for a legit build. I'm sure you'll be Russian right back to this thread after seeing how Swede they are. There's Norway that duping is better than actually building correctly.

I agree with both sides of this argument. Some builds are just too time consuming and their are not enough resources to do it. I do not like how a lot of these builds use items that make a build overkill like diamonds. Some of the best builds are made in creative on pc and no one seems to think that it is less impressive, because they used something that gives you all the supplies you need. It is the same logic. In about a month or so, creative will be out and all these dupped builds will not exist. I know that even creative builds are not as impressive as survival, but the scale is always bigger and more impressive. When a true builder wants to build something, he or she shouldn't be restricted.
Well duping won't really matter in a few months when we finally get creative mode. If people want to dup that's their personal choice and doesn't effect me in any way. Every glitch someone uses runs the risk of corrupt save files and various other things. Now me i enjoy seeing what people craft and create whether it be duping or not. Sure I find myself more amazed at those who took the time to do it legit but i don't look down on those who craft something using the glitch. In the end its personal satisfaction everything else is just doesn't really matter or at least it shouldn't.
i honestly and truly dont care what you think about dubplication ive made creations that people couldnt make with creation mode and my time was well spent
Well, bud, there's good news!
This post isn't directed at you!
Do you like rock music? If you do, that's cool.
Then don't visit a website called www.jazzmusic.com.
Do you like cheeseburgers? Sweet.
Then don't read a book entitled 'Hotdogs 101".
Do you like duping? Yea?
Cool. Then don't comment on a thread that is, perhaps, a little more pro-legitimate building.

If I made you laugh, smile, cry hysterically, or did something that made you feel relatively happy, hit that lil' green button.
As much as I dislike the duplication glitch, I must say that the Op is a bit more biased than I prefer. Add at least one benefactor to the bug.
Other than that, I agree with you. Only the most responsible of "dupers" have creations that do not involve a large amount of Iron Blocks, Gold Blocks, Diamond Blocks, Glowstone, Lava, Netherrack, etc, as well as them maintaining a respectable work ethic simultaneously.

Hah, I was trying to highlight the good things about working on a fair, legit project. Apologies for that. I respect your opinion, though.

Thank you. I just don't want any more pissed off guys to come chasing after you as hard.
No, no, I feel you. I can see both sides of nearly any argument; I don't have a narrow mind. However, I just don't understand why I can't make an opinionated post. At the top, I even said I was being one-sided.

I agree because I had a really nice world going it wasn't amazing but the structures on there took time because everything was done legit. So I felt more accomplished and so on.. then I started to dupe and the world just went downhill and got ugly long story short I am working on another legit world. Playing legit just gives the game more purpose and the time I spend just screwing around holding stacks of duped gear thinking of what to build ussauly makes up for the time I cut/mine all the gear anyways..

I played Technic Pack through, completely legit. But I realized that there was a bug in which I was getting tons of fuel for free from my aggregators.
Let me tell you, it RUINED my game.
I started a new one two days ago and couldn't be happier.

How would one know this thread titled simply "Duplicated Builds" is "Pro-legitimate building"?
As someone who is 2 weeks into building a rather large Dwarf fortress, and spent 3 of those days blasting to bedrock with TNT, and not even filling one double chest with cobble. I duplicated everything I thought I would need to finish my build( 4 stone, 4 cobble, 1 gold, 1 iron, 1 obsidian, 1/2 red-stone, and half glow-stone all double chests) I just ran out of all my stones before I came onto the forums. If I were to spend time mining everything it would take more then a month just to acquire everything needed to start.
Why should I feel less about my build because I didn't have access to a creative mode? When Creative mode does finally come in and everyone makes these unreal, mind blowing builds will you make a new thread bashing those who used creative mode to build them?
In conclusion I feel that it is my world, and if anyone has a problem with how its made then they have no need in coming for a visit. Its just an arcade game after all, we aren't competing for a million dollar prize here.Just fun a games. Live and let live.

Because I said 'comment', not 'view'.
Please stop trying to prove me one way or another, I just posted my opinion. I see your viewpoint as well. Anyways, you should put up some pictures for that dwarven build! Sounds awesome! Also, you should make a neighboring elven fortress. With a huge home-tree. That's cool.

Watch what you say there, man.
If you see Swervish's castle, you may want to rethink that.
I respect that. Nice one.

This is a perfect example on how that argument can go both ways. Danger, though. Somebody is probably going to shoot your own bullet at you.
