I'm not sure how useful this would be with all the redstone wiring exposed. You can do this a few different ways that are much easier and more hidden with some sticky piston and a simpler setup, which would also hide the wiring so you could fill the area with water or lava and have it rise through it. I will post a screenshot later when i get on of a setup i have with a similar design.

i put it above ground to show how to do it im not going to keep it there i know what im doing trust me.

Can we see an image of it in final form to get an idea of usefulness, I dont think this would make a good gate/bridge if on hostile because the 1 step up would still be traversed by mobs, unless it is under lava possibly.

dude ok your bridge is only 2 wide i made a (TUTORIAL) on how to make a 4 wide bridge i didnt put it underground so you can see how to build it. that is what a tutorial is.
