I'm surprised this isn't common knowledge by now but the in game map on MC360 is actually 862x862, not the 1024x1024 you see everywhere. It's easy enough to check with the maps now listing coordinates and as you visit each corner you will see each axis traverses from -431 to +431. However if you play around at 0 on either axis you'll notice 0 block seems to actually be two blocks wide. So perhaps it's technically 863x863. I plan on checking in the near future.
Also wouldn't it be nice to have maps update as the world changes? I know I just put in several hours building an edge of the map highway/railway only to be disappointed when it didn't show up on the map and as such wasn't easily noticed by other players with there maps as I had hoped.
Yeah my question was "wouldn't it be nice to have real time updating?"
And then perhaps I will have to double check but I had a 5x500 strip of structure crossing a large section of water that was not appearing on my in game map.
Okay Glad my reading comprehension is in full swing. Maps do indeed update with the environment. Perhaps reboot your game if it is not showing up? Something that large should be rather noticeable on a map.
When I go into caves and mine deep I have to play on peaceful because a spider surprising me will make me not want to play for a month and very paranoid.
The map size has been known to be 862x862 since before the coordinates were added to maps. The people who say its 1024x1024 just can't get it through their heads.
Maps only update if you're holding them. On top of that, one pixel represents an 8x8 section, or 1/4 chunk. I suppose if your 5-wide road were straddling a dividing line between two sections, it'd make up the least-prevalent block type in either section, and thus the more common block type would appear for that pixel on the map.
I had started a massive build & laid down about half the foundation, and man, did it show up on the map!
