I dunno, I'd say they were themepark games with sandbox elements really. See, the problem is inside the free roaming. Minecraft is a true sandbox because, from the word go, you can roam freely to any physical part of the game world at will. This is not true of Assassins Creed or GTA...ect. Those games require you to hit its story treadmill to open those areas up for travel. In reality, they aren't even fully realized sandboxes until you are at the end of the game, or beat them. At that point, there is very little to actually do. So you can roam freely, but do nothing whilst doing so.
Free Roaming isn't even the only component to a true sandbox either. It derives its name honestly, as in...playing in a real sandbox you can make whatever you dream of from the sand. You are given the tools to turn your imagination into a creation made from the materials present. Using the examples you all give, World of Warcraft is a sandbox game...which is clearly untrue. Star Wars Galaxies WAS one...because you could create things and shape the form of the world being played in.
So, not sandbox games. Just a touch of sandbox elements to make story driven games better. And I applaud them for it.
What DLC/Mod/Texture pack Do you want added in Minecraft XBLA
with that in mind, I want to see "You are the Creeper" type game mode where the host would be human, and anyone that joins is a creeper. Or vicey versy

True enough. The full contents of the yogbox would suit me fine. Or, "the walls" as a multiplayer PvP match mode. Awesome stuff, that.

"The Walls" would be the first DLC released if i had anything to say about it! Which I don't! Then the Portal DLC! After that the Yogbox and Teckkit as a double wammy! "You are the Creeper" and others would follow.
In a more perfect world, this would be the DCL path.

Glad you think as I do. I would pick the walls first for sure, in reflection. Awesome gameplay mode...and it would be SO MUCH BETTER if the clocks were made as a background texture or something so the 3000 pistons didn't rape the processor. Even on good PC's that countdown timer can kill you with lag.
THE WALLS THE WALLS THE WALLS. The voice of the people has been spoken, its words must now be done!
