I don't know a whole lot about the updates, but from what I've heard the next update is only going to be a bug fix. Apparently we will get the update with enchanting and plenty of other awesome features around September or so. Again, this is just what I've heard so I apologize if this information is incorrect. I'm just passing on what I heard from several others.
Beyond the August bug fix, our next update will be 1.8.2. This update will not include enchanting. Enchanting was added to Minecraft during the 1.9 pre-releases. This means that we will receive enchanting in the 1.2.3 update. For a more definitive list of what the 1.8.2 update will include, you can refer to this page.
