Then, years from now, when new friends come visit your world and ask, "why do you have 100,000 wool?" you can say,"It was the summer of twenty-twelve...and we knew the animals would come sparse through the cold months. Had to shear sheep uphill both ways for a solid month to weather the time to follow....and its was a time indeed. The lands were barren as far as the eye could see...the only sounds came at night and hungered for our flesh. My partner Jim, he went a little out of it back then...stayed locked up in his old shack by the river. When we all finally came to, we checked on Jim one day. He had zombies penned up down there, in his basement. Each one had a sign...one for chicken, one for cow, and there was egg and milk just rotting everywhere. We never figured out how old Jim got milk from a zombie, and we were a damn sight frightened to find out. When we finally found him, he was dead laying in a massive sarcophagus made of colored wool and leather. The plaque, his final words, read, "Hur lys Jim, ded frum breedin cows wif chickens." They were dark times, very dark times."
Using a bow is not the only reliable way to fight a Creeper. I use nothing but a sword and have stacks upon stacks of gunpowder.
Also, the hunger bar will still be easy to manage without food from animals. Bread, Melons, and Mushrooms.
I do agree with bows not being the only reliable way to fight a Creeper, but they are very helpful. You are also ignoring the fact that finding these things takes time in the beginning of the game and will just be an annoyance. Convenience would be gone, Also, why would you want to move backwards? It doesn't make sense to me. Wouldn't you rather have something that was here from the beginning instead of ditching it now?
Thats not really a solution. In the example I gave before, I'd need 35+ sheep at best to make enough wool just to line a walkway...and a small one at that. For the same thing done in string I'd need 900+ spiders. Thats not a night of farming. Thats not even a week of farming. Even with good mob grinders you aren't getting 900 string in a day. And thats just for a small walkway. If I wanted to add flooring to the castle beyond that I'd need, and this is a rough guess without even thinking about the math, probably 3000 more spiders, assuming they all drop something, to touch that project.
Thats not a solution, its a slap in the face man. You might as well have said don't build anything till december. Hell, it would take nearly as long just to collect the string. And, once again, bread is not an early game solution. See, right now...this isn't a big deal. No hunger bar, eh? Well...that changes. Now, hunger means healing is easy. But it also means food supply is demanded from the word go. Right now you can go awhile without needing food, just by making a small shelter and waiting nights out. Once hunger hits, you will die for not eating. Day 1 you aren't making a farm. Not while also making shelter and tools and setting up lights. Even if you did, you aren't actually GETTING wheat from that farm till day 2-4. This assumes you can get seeds quickly AND have a convenient water source to work with...as you won't be getting iron buckets for some time....unless you magically found a supply of iron AND coal next to each other right on the surface. And you got lucky with seeds on nearby grass on the surface. And you had trees in abundance in that same area.
Do you see how unlikely all that is? I'm certain such a map seed exists. I'm also certain that it doesn't make the situation better. Even on worlds that have been played for a long time....sure eating is solved, but building interesting and pretty things is still out. So...you don't die, but your ugly house makes you question whether or not it was worth spending all this time just to build the same thing you could have done back when minecraft only had cobblestone to play with.
Yay, thats the game I wanna play...I tell ya whut.
I like how you take what I am thinking and elaborate it into a well formed couple of paragraphs. Pat on the back for you sir
Showing my support here since I do not have twitter, facebook or any of that non-sense sociable people have I do agree that breeding should be moved forward. It wasn't such a big deal on the PC because you could wander off in any direction and find more sheepens to sheer or pigs and cows to slaughter for food, but with have a finite world, I could see running out of animals quite quickly.
I've given some more thought to the issue and the people who are saying "it's no big deal" are STILL wrong; however, I have come to realize that it's not as bad as it may seem (or perhaps it is, read on).
Presumably, 1.8 chickens will still hatch from thrown eggs so an adequate supply of chickens (try rounding up every one in your world after the update - it might be enough) will produce enough eggs to maintain a supply of feathers and raw chicken for cooking. Of course, the name of this game is Minecraft and not ChickenRustler, so I leave it to you to determine whether managing such a contrivance is worth your time.
/snark
In all seriousness, I tweeted 4J a couple of hours ago. Much better to hold off 1.8 and bring breeding forward than to follow PC development its pitfalls.
Hmm....running around with a sword, throwing chickens? Sounds like something I've played before. I request a vote for being able to pick up chickens and use them to glide.
In a finite world, this is a MUCH bigger issue. Either breeding should be moved forward, or animals not spawning should be moved back. These two changes really need to be implemented together, not 2+ months apart. I don't really care exactly when they do it (now or later), but taking out animal spawning & adding the hunger bar in a small world like we've got is just plain cruel if you don't add breeding at the same time.
You're such a ****. Also, "It's just a game." Obviously not to you, with over 4k posts about it. Just because you're so "superior" that this won't be an issue to you, doesn't mean it won't be an issue to the other 2.99 million people who play this game.
Your words hurt my internet feelings.
Funny how people always attack the ones with a different opinion.
I was thinking the exact same thing as Kmack11's first line, but was afraid to actually post that. Mustache_Guy... it's not that he has a different opinion from yours that makes you a "****," it's the tone of your posts in this thread. You are being very off-putting and vile. Are you having a bad day/week?
Basically you're saying, "I like it the way it is and if you don't play exactly my way, that's your problem, deal with it." Only meaner. Minecraft is meant to be played multiple ways to fit a variety of personalities... NOT JUST YOURS! So quit acting like you are the be-all, end-all MC player and to hell with anyone else.
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Maybe if we use an enchanted pickaxe with silk touch we can pick up chickens and put them on our head. Yeeeeeah

Thats pretty much how he acts all the time, unfortunately.
you cant kill all the animals in a map, believe me. plus, eggs spawn chickens
In version 1.7.3 you cant, but in the next one you can. Maybe you wouldn't kill every animal, but they would become very scarce. And you would always have this thought in the back of your head that there aren't always going to be a lot of animals. This would make you not want to kill them in the first place.
That's just a good way to get them to ignore you. If you do nothing but repeat the same thing, over and over and over and over, they'll eventually just stop caring about it and pass over those tweets because they've seen them a million times.
It will become white noise to them and will be tuned out.
That's ignorant to state. 4J is a business, feedback is what they work from, just as ANY business.
If a company get's an overwhelming amount of people to support something, they tend to sway in that decision/direction.
That's how businesses survive, they do whatever it takes to please the people who give them their money. If they don't, they lose cliental and money. How would 75% of the people who buy the product be ignored? (Obviously 75% is an exaggeration, but you say more is less in this circumstance)
Called the free market bromosexual.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
If anyone wants to play Bauldur's Gate (1, 2, or enhanced) or Icewind Dale PLEASE PM me. I'd like to play.

This is true. It is the same with all other video games like call of duty, or battlefield. An example would be how everyone in the cod community screams and yells at the developers when something is wrong. They don't care if it is overkill, they just want it fixed. So we need to something similar, but on less of an extreme. A couple tweets a day from a 50 people would catch their attention. IDK if that many are tweeting them, but you guys should.
Has Anyone thought about writing an actual letter???? You know, pen, paper and a stamp..... Certified so they have to sign to get it. Believe it or not, a bit of work for a hand written letter gets more attention than a thousand "white noise" tweets...... Maybe add some baby powder SWAK (just kidding)!!!! Just a thought.... "Fix Your Game 4J" Only goes so far......We will all keep playing either way. In the end it's a game and the community will play and gripe as always..... Now is the time to build up your Pork Chop Wool Empire!!!!!! Just to start over again

If anyone feels strongly enough about his feel free to send a letter. I live very far away from them so the price to send it would be a little too much for my tastes.
That's the whole point.... Shouldn't cost more than 5 to 10 bucks to mail a piece of paper....... A letter can go worldwide for under 3$ but, the fact they HAVE to sign for Certified Mail is more powerful than any random tweet. Just look at TV for example. 1 letter is worth more than 50,000 viewers...... How do ya think the rating system got started.... Sorry about my little rant here but. I hope all goes well. We shall wait and see!!!!
lol people on the internet are so easily offended by someone being extremely blunt.
