Breeding is definitely more necessary than enchanting, honestly. I've used the enchanting table maybe 10 times since the update for PC. And they were all in the Tale of Kingdoms mod...
Breeding allows a reliable source of meat, leather, and wool, should you go to the extra trouble of building a stable. More useful, really.

That is your opinion of course. In my opinion, enchanting is more important. I don't need the meat, I have a good wheat farm. I don't have any use for leather, and I don't really need wool. Whereas with enchanting, I would like to use silk touch to save inventory space while mining, and use fortunes to multiply non-renewable resources, among doing other things with enchanting.
the thing is unless they alter the fact that persistence of the animals means if any die they arent replaced then i actually think breeding pips out enchanting (even though i want enchanting) now if they were to let animals respawn if they died in some way .. well thats all good then.

Animals do respawn. It is rare, but it does happen. It has been confirmed by 4J. Anyone saying otherwise is wrong.

4J havent confirmed one way or another if animals will respawn under the persistant rules and as they didnt under the PC then until they say they are changing it then follow the PC version is the best bet.
I also clearly missed the news about definitly no breeding as I can still only see a looking at it.
Agree - anyone - and I mean anyone claiming "4J has said this," cite your source or I'm calling you a bald face liar. I have just been through the last 5 days of tweets from 4J and neither of the items mentioned above appear.

Yes they have confirmed animals will respawn: http://es.twitter.co...028685853671424
If you read through the thread, you would have seen the posts about it. As for breeding, they are still looking to bring it forward.

And, breeding still edges out enchanting because the low level of chicken respawn and the low-level of chicken spawn from eggs will make feathers a rare commodity. While you could just use spawn eggs to introduce a bunch of chickens in creative - it would be a pain in the butt.
Going from the title of this thread, if I were to give my opinion of which I'd want in the next update, it would definitely be enchanting versus breeding.
What's the point in having an XP bar if the XP is useless? Besides the fact, new food sources will be added. What's that? A lot of people aren't into farming? Well what's the difference between farming and breeding animals? Both take a tiny bit of effort. You also can't breed without farming anyway because wheat will be required so all those anti-farmers out there will STILL be required to farm.
I really want enchanting brought forward (if i had to choose between the two). If I'm going to get an XP bar, I want it to have some kind of use. Also enchanting brings the fun factor of this game up another notch. I like the RPG aspect of it. Breeding isn't a big deal to me as I will still be able to feed myself without having to kill off all the animals in my world.
i'd take breeding over enchanting, mostly because breeding provides a quick, reliable source of wool.
That is my big concern. I already have farms. For me, personally, the loss of wool is just huge. But, I do suppose I could just hit creative eh? Rather enjoyed doing everything the hard way. I worry that, with creative use, I'll burn out on the game. Maybe not, I dunno. Ah well. There's nothing for it. Good points were made for enchanting, and I gotta admit that fortunes pretty much sealed the deal. With such limited worlds, being able to harvest more rare resources IS a big deal. I just hate knowing all my animals are gonna be gone.
I have yet to download the update or play it, but judging by the posts I've seen regarding animals, I can see that this problem was completely ignored.
So we, as a forum, identified a problem. We informed 4J about it here and with TONS of tweets. They acknowledged it was a problem. And then promptly did absolutely nothing about it.
They didn't bring breeding forward from a future update. They didn't increase the spawn rate from slightly above 0% nor did they disable despawning until breeding existed. They just left a known issue in the update and wiped their hands clean.
Nice.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
I worded it badly. What I meant was they could have left off the despawn change to keep animals in a pre-1.8 state. If they had either brought forward breeding or kept 1.7.3 animals, we'd have no issues. But they ignored the problem.

I'm glad the animals won't despawn, now I can pin up chickens and harvest eggs without them going away when I go do something else. I would have liked to have breeding as well, but can live without it for the moment.

But... many people are having a hard time finding ANY animals. And if you happen to kill the ones you do find for food?!?! Tough. You don't get any more. Enjoy your animal-less world.

Love the fact that the update has been out 12 hours and people are going ape-.

Here you go also, since it is obvious you haven't looked through this thread:

I was speaking more towards gamewinerx's post.

The problem was not ignored. Animals do not despawn. Did you even read the change log?
