I've heard rumors 1.8 may include texture packs. Im hoping but in doubt that the owner of a world could set the texture for that world. This means that if you were to come into one of my games we would have the same texture pack. I believe this would be the best approach to texture packs, but since minecraft pc doesn't do this I doubt xbox would. With a feature like this, the look and feel of a world would be the same for all players in that world.
On the other hand, being able to change textures as a visitor would give the freedom to the player.
I feel that texture packs won't sold as much as skins were, because it would be hard to give a preview of the textures. If the textures were shared in a world someone visiting may say, "awesome texture pack. I want one for my world".
How do you think texture packs should be implemented? Shared, owned or maybe some combo? Any other ideas about textures?

i agree with the host of the server setting it and everyone seeing the same thing.
seems like you wouldn't be able to truly show off your creations because well, they may look like **** in a different texture pack.
#1 Why would people buy the Texture Packs DLC if they were forced to use one they didn't want to on someones world?
#2 If Texture packs were accessible to those who didn't actually buy them via someone having one on their world, why would the other person buy the texture pack DLC? They can basically use them for free by going onto someones world. Sure they might want it for their own, but a lot of people don't play alone.
I'm sure they will be specific to the person using them. My game will be able to display one texture pack while my friends will be able to display another separately. It's how it works on the PC and it would be dumb if they forced that onto us.
(yes, I know that the PC just got the option to have server forced texture packs as of 1.3)
I know I would be willing to spend up to $10 if my texture pack was shareable. I actually believe that more people would buy the texture packs if they could see it in action. While most people play publicly it doesn't men they don't have their own world. I highly doubt I would buy a texture if sharing did not apply.

I host a server for a number of people, if I paid for the texture pack everyone would get their's for free. Wouldn't make any business sense to allow that to happen. I know it's 4J and they fight for our free stuff (gotta love them for it), there'd be little freedom and little chance to sell the few things they are actually trying to sell.

If anyone wants to play Bauldur's Gate (1, 2, or enhanced) or Icewind Dale PLEASE PM me. I'd like to play.

well if you didn't buy that texture pack, you see the original texture of minecraft. i think there should be an option to force a texture pack if you're host. i think that guy said it's like that in 1.3 or whatever?
Textures - I would imagine if your xbox has the textures and other players dont, you would see your world in your texture and they would see it in standard or what ever texture they chose. The world could look different to you both. The block id number is which block goes where, the texture applied would be held somewhere else.
I really don't understand the getting something for free argument. The way I see it a texture pack can be looked at as a world enhancement. Lets say you built a castle that doesn't look good with the default textures but has a great look with the john smith textures. When someone joins your world you want to show them what you see. Alot of people play on their own worlds as well as other peoples worlds, few people don't have their own worlds. If I saw a texture pack in someones world that I liked I would buy it, but without a good preview I doubt I would buy any of the texture packs. It would seem like a waste of money to me.
To fully experience a texture pack you have to play with that pack. Since most the packs won't be free people will resist buying them without a good preview first.
Plus if the texture packs are shared, that would make the packs more valuable, I'm no longer just buying for me but for everyone who visits.
Another way to look at it is, "my neighbor has a 50 in tv, I want one for my home".

Look at it this way, picture tells a thousand words but to view it you got to pay for it. To "see" their world buy their texture. Its like reading a book without buying it and saying no thanks I dont want it. There are lots of ways to show pictures so they can see it. Would you go into your neighbours house see a TV, get the remote, flick through all the features and then say ok I dont want to buy it?
