Many people are worried about having to abandon their worlds that they've worked so hard and long on. Maybe you won't have to. For those that don't know, many new things are being implemented into the next update. These features would normally require for you to start a new world, or on the PC version, just venture out into unexplored lands.
Unexplored land. That's the only thing you really need if you want to take advantage of the new features. Now, if 4J ever expands the map size, this will fix that problem. The mineshafts and other things could possibly be in the newly accuired area. Now, knowing this, the developers of this game should add a little more size to the world with every update, so that people won't have to start all over.
If you have spent a long time on your world then I see no reason to start again just to see some NPC villages and mineshafts lol...
From what I have seen of them on the PC version, they are hardly worth forfeiting a months work of building for, you could easily recreate them yourself in the space of an hour if you wanted to.
You still get the new blocks & mobs etc in the update on your old world, thats the main thing.
If they make the world bigger you still have to start a new one so you can get the bigger world.
Not necessarily. They could just set it up where the out of bounds ocean just gets regenerated if they make the worlds bigger. It wouldn't effect anything that has been built as nothing would be built there anyway.
The way I see it right now, is there is no real reason for me to make a new world until 1.2.3. That way we get the end portal, blaze, villagers, etc. Yes I may miss out on ravines and abandoned mineshafts, but I won't have to start a 3rd world to get what I think is the important stuff. (Don't really need an empty village in 1.8 if it isn't going to have villagers).

they said that they cant do it and people would have to start new worlds
As far as generating a new world is concerned for when the 'Adventure Update' comes along, I don't see it as too big of a deal for those who have spent a lot of time building and gathering (like myself). Yes, if you're in love with the landscape, then I do see how it can be a little bit upsetting to leave it behind, but at the same time, a new world is a new world and you may end up liking it a bit more than the one you have now.
The reason why I don't see anyone needing to loath the new update: creative mode.
There should be no stress for anyone If 4J allow us to toggle creative mode on/off before loading our world. Just take a count of every block/material you've acquired over in the world you're leaving behind and give yourself that exact number of blocks/materials by using creative mode in your new world (not one block or item more). Same goes with building. Build everything you've built in your old world into your new world using creative. I play 100% legit all the time and for me, having spent hours upon hours in the map I've had since May, this feels fair; however, if we aren't allowed this ability, then yes, the weighing of starting a new world and keeping the one you have still stands.

Yeah, massive builds will be an undertaking to move over. Especially if you don't remember exactly how to build it again making you have to go back and forth from old world to new world just to look at it. Don't shut the idea down so quickly, though. Think about how fast you can get it done in creative. Yes, you still have to do it again, but it won't take nearly as long. I know that it is a bit to suggest effort wise (if you have a lot of buildings), but it is a viable option if 4j allows us to toggle creativity on/off.
Yea, half of the time spent building something is collecting materials, scaffolding and breaking blocks. In creative mode you can fly, have unlimited resources and break blocks instantly. You will be able to build large structures 3-4 times faster than before. Suddenly its not so bad having to move to a new world.
uhm....am i the only one who has multiple maps? i have one from the very first day minecraft came out..."my fave" and i always look for a cool new one every update. but i always go back to my original one.....its like my fourth child lol

If you've worked really hard for 2 months building up a nice world, you have to weigh up whether or not the new terrain is worth losing it all.
Personally for me, it isn't. As long as I get the new items & blocks mobs on my old world, I'm happy

On topic they are trying to figure out the whole world expansion thing.
I personally don't even have a world I have been waiting for this update to do it.
I just build on all my friend's maps

Retired StaffWhat they need to do is a program to copy your buildings to a new world like the PC people can do.

Are you serious? We all know we can have more than one world.
I mean, you can make a new world and continue to work on your other one.
