Hey there.. i have a pretty decent world with lots of resources at the moment and i have a bunch of redstone that I'm not sure what to do with? I know its used for power and mechanisms but I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to that kind of stuff, but I'm curious so i was hoping to get some help or some tips maybe? Thanks.
The wiki has some good info and you tube has a ton of tutorials. Try copying some of the tutorials and when you got it working tinker with it. Anyone can take a you tube video circuit and put it into their world but finding out how it works is the only way to come up with circuits of your own.

Give a man fire and he's warm for a day, light a man on fire and he's warm for the rest of his life.
Start with the simple things. Put a button, pressure plate, switch, on a door and see how they act.
After that, put some redstone wire on the ground and put a redstone torch at one end of it and see what happens
Put a block of dirt at the end of that wire and put a redstone torch on the side of that block. Put the another torch at the other end of the redstone wire and see what happens to the torch on the side of that block.
That will give you the most basic understanding of redstone. After that, watch a bunch of yourube videos to see the al the kinds of things you can do with nothing more than what I mentioned above. Things like traps, annoyance machines, etc.
After you have all that under your wing, start learning about logic gates. They will open the redstone world to you. People have created giant 8 segment clocks, automated farms of all sorts, self repairing walls, eight bit computers... the sky's the limit.
He walks you through his creations (not the "- in 60 seconds" vids) and kind of explains the paths the power takes to make each part of the mechanism work.
As others said, just play around with it. It's really cool stuff.

This thread bores me.
