Well, I do have to admit that it's irritating when the forum is cluttered with "Epic!/Biggest/Best" (insert whatever here) "Guaranteed the bestestest most AWESUMZ!!!!" blah blah blah.... and then you open the post, and it looks like something I slapped together out of Legos when I was six. Or a jumbled collection of mis-matched architecture with a giant pixel-art Sonic the Hedgehog or something hanging over the whole mess.
I find that things that actually are "epic" don't need to be declared as such.
what your saying makes perfect sense, however I normally build rooms at a time and constantly expand my minecraft base, on the other hand I don't post my crap on the forums to get peoples attention, I show my friends, that being said my minecraft home has two block thick walls and is enormous, however I did include some nice architecture such as massive glass walkways with supports and an underwater part of my base, all without using some form of duplication
I got tired of making smaller houses with rooms the size of third-world countries' slums, so I made my houses bigger.
But I guess that now makes me fifth grader who thinks of bigger houses the way society thinks of bigger penises.

Only if you put up pics in a thread with "EPIC!!!!", "AMAZING!!!", "AWSUM!!!!", or "BEST EVER!!!!" in the subject line.
I do try to avoid dupping, however the way I see it, it's kind of like playing Creative mode. And once we have Creative, dupping will be pointless. So I just think of as an early Creative type.
And big buildings can be stupid, but it depends what you do with them. If it's just a tower with some rooms, yeah I guess it's boring. It just needs to be more interesting. Add in some secret doors or traps or something.

+1. Somehow a lot of these "epic" builds seem an awful lot like a "Potemkin Village".
I dupe on some of my maps when im doing kargd projects but i use it to put a lot of detail into my maps to may them looks good. And most small projectz and smaller builds i do it legitly just when you have big projects i dont like to sit and mine cobble for hours and wait for it to smelt. So yeah i mean you are right some stuff is clearly over duped but you can still dupe and make some great maps. Not everyone has the creativity of a"5th grader"
It all comes down to details, lets face it after playing minecraft for awhile ALMOST anyone can build an epic shell. Making the shell is not even the hard part no matter how cool the shell looks. What is really hard is making said shell look "lived in, used ,useful, whatever" bringing out the True meaning of epicness.....unless your building a storage unit...it should look like a storage unit lol
1. What's the difference in duping and creative mode? I consider duping as a temporary, less polished improvisation for Creative mode. Although in my opinion it ruins survival worlds instantly to me.
2. It's near, if not impossible to make huge buildings that use alot of gold, or other rare things with the small world sizes.

It's fine that people use duping as a replacement for Creative. However, they really do need to stop making some of the worst structures and then flaunting them as the greatest thing ever created in Minecraft history. From what I've seen, 75% of dupers don't know how to build. They make horrible looking buildings with little to zero variety or creativity. I'm pretty sure that duping actual stifles and ruins creativity. People use gold and diamond blocks just because they can. Most of them don't even bother trying to make it look good.
I agree that massive buildings and duplicating is bad to an extent. I hate the look of those tall 10x10 skyscrapers, there's no creativity to it. On the other hand if you spend your time to make an elaborate castle on a hilltop, complete with a village, i don't see the bad in it. Minecraft is a game about creativity and building. Let people enjoy the game how they want.
So, Im supposed to play this game how YOU want me to play it? lololol
If I want to make a giant shell of a building on my world, I will. If I want to use diamond and gold blocks as paving stones, I will. Hell, if I want post up a few pictures of it, with the sole purpose of aggravating all the mouth breathers on this forum, I certainly will. Get over it.
