From everything i've gathered about reasons why the map size can or can't be increased over the past since we first learned how minuscule the maps were going to be in comparison to PC, the most logical-sounding explanation I've heard is that the 360 is perfectly capable of increasing size (maybe not to PC size, but certainly bigger) because the console doesn't render the entire map at one time, only everything within the render distance, which is the largest consumer of RAM (which some believe the problem is, not enough RAM). The reason we can't have bigger maps is because of a file size limitation Microsoft has placed on game saves.
Now, I haven't read anything from an official source that actually confirms this, and this isn't about debating it, BUT assuming that's true would anyone actually mind donating a couple gigs of memory solely to Minecraft to accomodate these larger save files? Is there anyone that would have a legitimate problem with this other than not having that much memory left on their HDD?
If it were solely a matter of game save space, sure. I'd be more than happy to let a world take up around a gig. I sincerely think the Xbox is not as limited as Minecraft is making it out to be, though. I fully believe that larger worlds are possible in some way.
Yes I would give an entire hard drive worth of memory to minecraft just to make it half again as big, I need more space for all my stuff!!! I don't see why it shouldn't be made an option, I'm sure MS makes a pretty penny from the minecraft sales, and they could probably find some way to charge us for larger worlds. (And honestly, I'd be happy to pay as long as it was a one-time purchase)
Edit: Just to clarify, I'm happy with world-size as it is, but I would be MUCH happier with larger worlds : D
Another thought, I don't see why 4J couldn't just make the game about the size of other arcade games, which is about a gig or 2, then use the extra space for saves
Yes! I agree totally! I think I have just about mined all of the diamonds I can find in my map. Making them larger (and expanding old maps) would be a great way to keep people playing the Xbox version.

You know what would also be epic? A brain! First you put it in your head, then you use it!
Most people spawn with one but I guess you didn't because of a bug.
The issue with this is that they can't just make an exception for Minecraft, it would have to be a policy change, which is a very complicated issue. I think it's more likely for them to change the save structure (which they may consider with the current litigation issues).
I would love bigger maps, but I feel like they are a decent size now. I would rather see a choice in map sizes so that smaller maps were an option. (Smaller would be better suited to quick-build competitive play.)
Sorry to nitpick, but memory is not the same as hard drive space. Now that that is out of the way, I would like to be able to dedicate more hard drive space to bigger worlds. The problem is that there is a 2 GB limit for file sizes on the Xbox 360. This is a hardware limit, not just some arbitrary number. But that would be more than enough I think.

so if minecraft needs more space on my HDD for a bigger map
Go For It MC
i would like a bigger map
