Guess what don't buy them. If you can't spare 2 dollars for a skin pack that isn't really necessary you're screwed.
Simply put, anything other than the updates to catch the game up to the PC are considered DLC by Microsoft. Anytime a software company puts out DLC, Microsoft charges that company to do so. Thus, it costs money for 4J to put up a DLC (like a skinpack, or new optional features, or whatever). 4J is not in business to pay for your stuff... so they pass the cost on to you. Microsoft charges 4J because they're running the XBL servers & have to maintain that whole infrastructure; more DLC's out there mean more servers online & higher operating costs for Microsoft (which isn't in business to give you free stuff either).
As for "loads of money", Minecraft was $20. BF3 (with the multiplayer key) was around $60 (or more), and nobody thought twice about plunking down the coin for it. $2? Seriously? I bought a 12oz bottle of water about an hour ago, and with tax it was $1.74.
Besides, how much 4J actually takes home isn't really any of your concern; You got damn good value for your $20 (especially compared to some of the other crap that's out there for 3 times as much). Are you intimating that you think 4J has "made enough money"? Exactly how much is "enough"? Ask a goat herder from Tanzania if YOU are making "too much money" and should have to give some away for 'free'.
They cost money because 4J made them. There is no skin editor (I'm guessing) because they know they can make money off of skin packs.
There's no skin editor because they'd have to hire a veritable army of reviewers to make sure that no player-created skins violate the MS terms of service.
Microsoft will earn money where they can and only give things away when they have to. I thought everyone knew this?
The fun will start when they start charging money for updates and yes, its coming. Mojang/4J only have a set amount of 'free' updates, once they are used up, people will have to pay. Boy are the forums going to meltdown then
They have stated multiple times we won't have to pay for updates. DLC, yes, updates no. Just because they have to pay doesn't mean we have to.

You mean like the custom player emblems on COD? Trust me, there are plenty of them that break the TOS.

Yup. Exactly. And I'll bet MS is getting complaints, and the COD developers are getting a ration of crap for it. There's probably a little bit of leeway given, considering that COD is rated 'M'; Minecraft is rated 'E10+'. Hell, you can't even use the word "balls" on in-game signs.
people stopped bitching about this atleast a week ago

Skin pack 1 free trial, and Summer Of Arcade skin pack.
Also, you can play as the creeper with skin pack 1 trial. Just switch from the wizard to the creeper back and forth fast and press A.
Ok, you don't know why.
But you know that's the way it is, and you also know it's not going to change.
So why the post???
