We are currently trying to track down the FPS issues and slowdown players have reported since the Update.
If you have seen this issue since the latest Update could you provide the Seed you are currently using on the map.
The seed can be obtained prior to loading the map on the Load game screen.

Also, there is a serious bug that causes every player in the game to be deleted upon restart. Deleting all of the players' held items, starting them new with a map every time. This is more serious than the rare FPS drop.

I have just yesterday started a new world and encountered this FPS slowdown after some time. I was wondering, what the heck is going on here. The seed of this world is 8728279966476453267.
Today it run smoth for about 5 minutes. I walked around on the map and after 5 minutres in some areas the FPS drop down started. I have the fealing, that it is somehow a cacheing problem eventually.
4JSteve, my seed is Achillies. When I started the map I had major FPS drop, once I got the whole map uncovered, I never noticed it again. I now have no more problems with FPS drops at all.
All FPS drops I've been getting are in newly created maps, no problems in my existing maps. Don't have the seeds on hand at this moment, but it happens in single player, in any new map.
I'll record a video of the game doing it's random stuttering. It's just any map in general that will do it (new maps). It seems to happen more with more entities + chunks spawning. Check back for video.
I get FPS drops on ANY seed when it starts raining in-game.
I'm also on a multiplayer server. The seed is " plethaurus " and it's only ocurring now that there's a lot of building in the town. It doesn't seem to be associated with pistons running, it happens randomly.
I've been receiving FPS drops when there are a large number of drops in one area (often times happen when I am within 16-32 blocks from my mob grinder) or when I am running more than 10 pistons at once. My main seed is "Super Flat Lands" without quotes.

I have been performing multiple tests. It has something to do with the netherworld.
We can only get it to save 1 character.
Me and my friend keep trying different tests inside the netherworld, each test results in either his character being saved, or my character being saved. But never both. Also while testing, we got one of the maps to show the netherworld area. While other blank maps won't show the nether.

I hope this helps you pinpoint the problem.
This is true for me too.
Issue 1: Can't operate more then a dozen pistons with glowstone attached to them with out the frame rate drop.
Issue 2: Some redstone torches tend to burn out randomly. Sometime I'll get two uses out of it or sometimes a dozen or so.
I'm sure its visible in other places, but travel towards the West on the map from the spawnpoint and you're sure to hit super laggytime.

Pretty noticeable between 7:00 and 8:00, also mentioned by me in the video at 10:10-10:20.
Lags for the first 30 minutes or so.
Mostly lags when I lay a block down within a block of me.
