i know in later versions it changes to the monster that it spawns, but why is there a pig now? i've always wondered. kindof hoping someone has an answer or theory, haha.
I'm guessing that the model in the spawner tries to point to the ID number of the creature it spawns, but it's bugged and ends up reverting to the default ID number, which points to the pig.

but all of them are bugged then? every spawner i've seen on the 360 shows a pig.
Yeah, they're all bugged. Maybe 4J will fix it in the next bug patch. Or maybe they have a taste for the macabre and like the sight of a flaming pig spinning around in a cage. o:
IN SMP (what we are playing now) all spawners had pigs in Multiplayer maps.... Just a glitch from coding SMP I think. Try playing off line and see if that helps. I'm curious too.... Even old LP's have pigs in the spawners but, I forget what update it's patched in.

It wasn't fixed until 1.2. So we'll be seeing the mob type the spawner actually spawn when we get the 1.2.3 update.
Also, playing offline does nothing on the Xbox version because it is always running a server. Even when you're offline and playing alone, your game is still technically multiplayer.
ah so it's a bug with the coding or whatever, alright. i was just wondering because i thought it was a little random, you know the whole spinning pig thing... even though dungeons have nothing to do with pigs.

LOL You know I've always wondered that myself but I never asked. Everytime i find one I keep waiting to see a pig spawn
The 1st time I saw the spinning pig on fire I laughed like a little girl. Ill be bummed when they switch it.
I just assumed the flaming pig was just a weird
Minecraft magic pig. I too did not know why a pig would be in a cage, yep people would refer to the dungeon as a "zombie" or "spider" dungeon. Since I always play on peaceful, there's no way for me to know what type of dungeon I'm in.
I dont see it as a bug. Its just something they changed at a later date. I dont even mind not knowing what type of spawner they are. I just turn on mobs and find out. If I knew in advance would I turn mobs on....maybe, maybe not right then.

Pig just mean zombie spawner.
What are you smoking?
Pig not mean zombie spawner.
Did you bother to read any of this thread?
