If you have a snowy biome area, can you remove the snow from it?
I am asking because apparently the 1.8.2 update changes the coding for biomes and on the PC version it was known to sometimes suddenly make deserts turn into snowy areas in existing maps as the desert coding was removed and replaced by a new snow biome.
If that happens to my world it will cause me problems as my city is built across a former desert biome and I dont want my city to be suddenly covered in snow.
So basically, if it does happen (not saying it will, but if....), if I go around and dig up all the snow will it spawn back or stay away forever?
Thanks for any help!

It will spawn back next time it snows. A way that people usually stop snow is by making a giant glass ceiling above it, that way, since snow can't be on glass, it stops snow from spawning and light still gets through.
You can dig up the snow but when it rains, snow will fall and start covering the blocks again. I don't know anyway to get snow to stop falling, so I think you may be boned.

Edit the 2nd: When I've used glass cielings in the past i've found that rain and snow fall through it anyway, that might be a personal problem/ glitch though
Damn it... Why do they always have to mess with current aspects of the game ... Like the way they suddenly changed the look of glass from a distance... Its nearly impossible to design decent looking cities because you have no idea how its going to look after the next update!

Believe me it is in fact a pain in the butt, it doesn't seem to happen all the time, but I've built a few observation towers with glass domes and it always seems to be an issue eventually.
On another note, snow biomes are lovely! Sure you gotta shovel your walk but everything looks really pretty with that white blanket over it

Snow might look nice, but after 2 months of trying to create a realistic city, I dont want everything covered in snow, if i wanted a "white blanket" id just dup 40000000000000000 stacks of white wool and do it myself.
Ive spent forever making my gardens, roads, pathways, building entrances etc all look perfect.
As for torches, that would work, but i dont want 2394827583247659846 torches scattered everywhere either, itd look ridiculous.
I really hope they code this not to happen, if it happens the same as it did in PC my world and 2 months of work will be ruined

How is that messing with a current aspect of the game? That is how snow has always been and that is how snow will always be. You cannot remove it because it's a biome.
You shouldn't have built somewhere where it snows.

They didn't build somewhere where it snows. They built in a desert. They are talking about that fact that a pre-1.8 world loaded with the 1.8 patch can cause biomes to be overwritten, such as a desert becoming a snow biome, as they stated in their post. That is what they mean (I assume) by messing with the current aspects of the game.

Read my original post again... My city is built over a desert! in the 1.8 beta update, some deserts get changed to a snow biome....
My city which is completely fine now has the potential to be covered in snow, as happened to numerous people in the PC version after the 1.8 update.

But seriously you would never need that much wool, thats just crazy

Then again, the Xbox version might happen differently. Who says old worlds will be affected by the biome change?
Because the Xbox version does not use the Anvil file system, it uses the old system where biome code is written into the game and not saved in the game save file... In the Beta update 1.8 they changed the biome coding, removing some biomes and replacing some with others... During that, some desert biomes got changed to have snow fall...
My city, which was built over a pre 1.8 desert biome, will now have a good chance of having snow fall on it after the new update is installed... That is not something that people should have to expect, deserts suddenly changing to snow, and it would be very poor if they let it happen.
I would recommend installing WorldEdit and copying the city as a .mce file. That way, if it does turn into a tiaga biome, you can find another desert and just plonk your city down there.

I'm hoping they learn from their mistakes in coding. You need to post a screenshot of this awesome world you speak of.

Yeah I hope so as well, but I cant see it being any different to the PC version, unless they find a way to make the game remember where snow did not fall and keep it that way? I can only hope...
And I'm not saying my world is awesome, just that I put a lot of work into it... A lot of my work might not be very impressive to others, but I like it and want to keep it how it is, thats all I ask for, not to have snow dumped over it :).
If you wana see it though, anyone is welcome to come have a look around, just send me a message on xbox live

Well if this happens it would make me quite upset, not the fact about the snow because a good chunk of my world (SW side of my world) is a snowy bio-me so I don't think it will affect me and the small deserts (beaches really) I have. What upsets me is they couldn't implement the Clay patch into existing worlds already made. I've spent so much time in my world and there's not a single clay block to be found :fume:

I do agree with the beauty of the snow biomes.
