when new biomes are added is there a chance this will be around the time they attempt to expand the worlds( if they do at all ) so I won't have to start a new world just to get a cat or jungle tree?

New biomes are being added in the next two updates, so unless 4J finds a way to make the worlds bigger by then, you'll need a new world.
It's not as bad as people make it sound. Just start a new world and play on both worlds. It's not like you need to delete your old world or that you should stop playing it forever.
I don't really see the point of adding biomes if they don't plan on expanding the map. I mean sure, it will add a bit diversity to the terrain, but I can't really imagine a swamp biomes taking only quarter of this small map...

Swamps are one of the smallest biomes in the game.
Quick question: Am I right in assuming that once we get the update with new biomes, seeds will produce completely different worlds than they do now? And I mean not just, for example, a forest or parts of it being replaced with jungle, but that the whole landscape will be different?

The terrain generation code does change in the next update. That means the famous seed Glacier will not give the same map anymore.

That's what I was afraid of. Goodbye, oh all you great seeds I have found during countless hours of typing stupid stuff in the seed window and exploring the resulting worlds. :'(

Is it a chicken or is it a duck? - It's a chuck, because dicken sounds stupid.
Maybe there should be a user vote. Wnich would you like to see first. a) expanded map b.) new biomes. I too am concerned over the size of the map and how the biomes will fit it. My existing map doesnt have cactus I assume due to the map size, if we are going to have to fit more biomes what else will I lose.

is there a chance? of course.
Is it likely? Not really with 1.8.2 considering there are really only swamp biomes coming.
hopefully in 1.2.3

Nope. The only thing 4J has said is that they are looking into it but that their first priority is the updates.

Two updates from now in 1.2.3.
