Today I made a elevator which I know I did it correctly because I've made it twice now, once on the PC on 1.2.5 and once on my xbox. Both times I followed this tutorial by 777Static777, and I checked back over it to make sure I got all the repeaters on the right setting and all that and it's correct. But for some odd reason it doesn't work on the xbox but it did on the PC. Does anyone know why?
Also, I remember reading somewhere that pistons were slowed down or something like that, if so can I just wait til that update comes to xbox, and what update was it?
Sorry for all the questions, but I've noticed that pistons on the xbox are somewhat glitchy it looks like. They sometimes disappear and then reappear when they become activated. Could this be why it doesn't work? Or is it just a visual bug?
I've set all the repeaters that take the power up to 4 ticks to slow it down. Also I always get stuck in the pistons, however my elevator has 4 floors and the distance between 1st - 2nd and 3rd to 4th is only about 12 blocks.
when I get stuck I wait for the elevator to stop, then jump and it take me to the top. The distance from 2nd - 3rd is about 20blocks and for me that one usually fails. (I get stuck in the shaft then get an error message saying MC needs to exit).
Also I know the piston disappearing is not just graphical, my cobble generator sometimes(very rarely) throws cobble into places it could only get by going through a piston.
Okay thanks, I did some more research and it turns out almost everyone is having this problem with there elevators. So I'm just waiting for the next patch.
Try slowing it down. I have 2 elevators(not based on that design) that I had to slow down, compared to the PC versions, so that they would work properly.
You could try a zipper piston elevator..I tried it yesterday and it works.
I have tried several different types including zipper styles. Sometimes they work sometimes they dont. I have noticed the piston extending animation sometimes bugs out and the piston goes from unextended, disappears for a second then appears fully extended which gets me stuck inside the piston. I have been unable through multiple tries to make a fully working elevator that works every time. I think we need to wait for a patch.

That's the bug I was talking about and I agree.
But for anyone who wants a small elevator that works almost all the time check this one out. I made it in the xbox edition it works good most of the time, so until the patch if you just want a small elevator(which I believe you could just stack it for multiple floors to make it bigger) make this one.
Of all the elevator designs, the zipper is one of the ugliest... and the normal way to ride it is to face the back wall all the way up, which sucks. You get no nice view as you rise. At least the piston elevator has a glass front that you look thru when you go up.
But none of the elevators work very well in xbox. The zipper does seem to be the best option we have at the moment, until 4J fixes (I HOPE THEY FIX THEM) the glitchy disappearing pistons.
I finalized my zipper timings yesterday.
At the bottom, for the two repeaters underground, I settled on a 2 tick delay for the left repeater and a 4 tick delay for the right repeater (this assumes that the bottom floor configuration has the non-moving stair to the right of the pressure plate (as is usually the case in all videos).
Also, it seemed to work best if all the repeaters up the back of the elevator are set to a 3 tick delay. All other repeaters stay as 1 tick delay (i.e. no change from default setting).
I think that's all I adjusted. With one friend in my world, the elevator did operate a bit different from when I was playing offline solo. I did have to readjust the timings, but these ones do seem to work.
The zipper is performing with much higher efficiency that any of the other elevators. The big drawback to me is that you have to either face the wall going up, or else you have to back up onto the pressure plate which also sucks. But all things considered, the only way to go for us xbox'ers right now are zippers (IMO).
P.S. I have been working to try and modify the design in order to allow access to the elevator from the back... mainly so you walk in, a piston can push you up into the block where the pressure plate normally is (I'll use a two-piston double-push), and you can face OUTWARD and get the nice view as you go up. No success yet but I still think I can do it somehow... just gotta keep using my thinking cap.

This guy has a zipper elevator and he can look outward. Watch the video starting at 8:45. I'm not sure if this is what your talking about but I hope it helps. Also he is very small on youtube but I think he deserves some more attention because he does a nice lp series, unlike most other people.
Yeah he just spins around in that video. Not the same, but it is effective. Spinning (looking) around is fine when going upward, but moving around is not. However, I'd like to not even have to spin around, but simply walk into a little cutout in a wall, have a piston push me upward two blocks to the elevator starting block, and then time the elevator to start automatically and push me upward. When I finally fire up my xbox today that's the first thing I am working on.

Okay, I didn't know exactly what you meant. But good luck on your project!
Ive been thinking about the timing issues on these elevators and havent had a chance to try it due to the lack of resources but what if you used a preasure plate on every landing instead of wiring all the pistons to one plate at the bottom. It wouldnt work for going down of course but it would get you to the top quickly I would think.

Yeah but I don't really like those, they look stupid to me.
I slowed it down twice and it still didn't work.

I know, that's why I think we have come to the conclusion that we should just wait for the update.
Honestly, I'm not sure. But I believe that PC had piston problems too, and it will be fixed.(I believe)
