What I have seen with Halo 3, Xbox live can support 16 players. Is the current player cap going to to bumped up at all? I don't exactly feel that my world feels expansive enough without a bigger number of people allowed to be on my "Server" at the same time.

I heard 4J were looking into it. Don't get too excited though, it's not very likely. I'd rather them fix the multiplayer lag then to add more players and more lag.
Also, unless the worlds get bigger, you'd notice really quick the downsides to have more than 8 people on your world at once. The chances of lag would increase greatly because more of the world would need to be loaded at once. Resource consumption would probably triple with another 8 people playing all the time. People seem to often come up with these ideas and never think of the possible downsides or drawbacks. Everyone thinks 4j could just slap an extra 8 players into the game and everything would work hunky dory. Minecraft is an unpredictable game because of the nature of it's design. There is probably a reason that the 8 player limit was chosen and for now, we're just going to have to live with it.

I'd rather them make dedicated servers or shared hosting more than anything >.< That should be their Number 1 priority but I do think that it would be nice if they increased the amount of players. They sure have their word cut out for them. Many obstacles to be crossed. I sure do wish them the best of luck.
