I have a slime patch and Ive noticed that if I use a Diamond sword on any sized slime they disappear and dont split. 2x2 slime is my latest victim that I saved and repeated the test on. Sure enough everytime I used my diamond sword it would disappear. Got out my trusty 64 chunks of cobblestone and it split fine. My question is is this normal? Is it a bug?
Second question in the Wiki page slimes spawn from layer 40 downwards and they goes on about 3 layers above bedrock. Can someone clarify if they have built a slime farm higher than level 12 and do slimes spawn.
Them disappearing is normal with swords, it causes too much damage and they die versus split. Either punch or I personally prefer the bow since it seems to work every time.
I haven't built a farm above layer 12, but I have had a few spawn above layer twelve. The only problem with the higher you go is there are more caves that, if unlit, will spawn hostile mobs which will lower the spawn rate of the slimes.

32wide by 48long slime farm from bedrock to layer 40, each layer is 5 blocks high, 8 stories high. Yes, slimes do spawn, be patient and wait away from the slime farm, then go back and check for slimes.

Slimes only spawn below level 17 in this version. It will later be updated so that they will spawn below layer 41.
Yes slimes spawn below layer 16 in 1.7.3 wish people would stop telling others its layer 40. Which hasnt been in the PC version very long. Gotta love the wiki

FayzedNZ, I think it would be worth adding something to your excellent slime guide 101 about the sword and layer issue Thanks for a great guide btw.

If you read it is in there
"The bigger slimes will break into smaller slimes provided they are not over-killed. It's best to hit the bigger slimes (large/medium) with anything other than tools or swords etc. People say they find it better to use arrows to split them down, you can punch them, hit them with blocks and not worry about over-killing them."
"Slimes spawn in specific chunks (known to everyone as slime chunks) that are randomly generated with the worlds seed on layers 16 and below. (for our current xbox version)"
The bow is the best choice for splitting larger slimes into smaller ones. Four arrows will cause a 3x3 slime to split, and one arrow splits a 2x2 slime.

Is it a chicken or is it a duck? - It's a chuck, because dicken sounds stupid.

Retired StaffIt is rather annoying though when you see multiple threads on the same thing when the info is right there.
