I recently found out that after the patch that fixed duping there is a new way(new to me anyway) to dupe, which is by holding down the A button on a held item while in the dispenser, and have a friend break it. Well I got it to work the first time, but since then it has not been duping the items and sometimes the item I try to dupe just vanishes. If anyone can tell me why, or another more reliable method of duping I would appreciate it so very much.
Also, if your against duping please don't comment on this thread. It's not meant for an argument, I just need some help.
It sounds to me like it's being a glitch. Glitches are unreliable and notoriously sketchy. Maybe it doesn't work every time because it is well, a glitch. Also, there are tons of ways to dupe in the game still. Just go look on YouTube or browse here in the Xbox forum. People have posted them.

Your main mistake is relying on a glitch to always work. That's why it's a glitch. It's not suppose to happen... but sometimes it does.
Now, I think what gets it to work is hitting the despenser the correct amount of times... which you can only get lucky doing. I never pull it off the first time everytime. That's the nature of this glitch. If you want to dup this way you have to keep trying and be patience and have lots of despensers on you. Good luck.
Just delete the cache and do it the old way. You would obviously need 2 controllers though.

The single player furnace/despenser glitch works, but I generally dedicate a level to glitching since it can fry your save game. Mine is already lagging horribly and darn near un-playable. Back-up often.
1) Make a line of 8 furnaces side by side all facing north.
2) Drop one of diamond in each furnace (to dup diamonds)
3) Walk up to the line of furnaces from the east.
4) Empty your inventory into a chest or a hole in the ground, hold nothing but a pick-axe
5) Make sure the pick-axe is in "spot 1" (far-left) on your tool belt.
6) Begin to break the first furnace with a pick-axe
7) When the three pixels near the top left go black switch to your hand (D-Pad left / right)
8) If the furnace glitches (breaks and re-appears) wait 3 seconds.
9) Open the furnance, press D-Pad down, then press and hold A (step 9 should take less than 200 ms).
10) Keep holding A (place-take) and wait for the furnace to re-glitch (disappear).
11) If you get two diamonds out of the furnace, one is the glitch diamond, collect them both then re-empty your inventory.
12) Now the glitch diamond will remain. Put your pick-axe in "spot 1" then walk up to the glitch diamond. Once collected it will show as a stack of 64. Put the glitch stack (alone) in a chest.
13) If you only got one diamond, go back to step 4 and move to the next furnace (be sure to empty inventory).
With a line of 8 furnaces I almost always get the glitch. I've had to go through 6 furnaces though on tough items.
This youtube doesn't do it the way I suggested, but pretty close.
there is an easier way which requires the furnace but isn't really reliable it takes about 2-3 furnaces to work.... cant wait for creative mode so we don't have to duplicate items and deal with all this hassle.

Yeah use a furnace it works more often, but does fail sometimes.
I wouldn't suggest saving, because if it fails you lose whatever you were duping and the dispenser.
I usually restart if I fail.
