Yeah, seems like it might rain about once every 2-3 minecraft days (guessing). That is a lot, every 40-60 mins realtime. I do think it rains too often, but I live in a desert.
The big change with 1.7.3 is the lightning and thunder that sometimes accompanies the rain. That can get annoying too, my friend was struck by lightning the other day for 3 hearts damage. LOL

i haven't heard thunder. i've never been struck by lightening either. the sound of the rain is so annoying. it sounds all staticky.
Sleeping will turn rain off, so it will shorten the amount a bit. Also, using Single Player Commands or TMI/NEI to turn off rain seems to make it more common. Untested, though.
Lol, I know what you mean.. When I was planning my house on paper I had my headphones on with minecraft running and my tv off for about 4 hours, It rained like 80% of the time. :/
You go collect snow and make it your floor, so you get the good crunch sound

It probably does too much, But I do like it when it snows.
Snow blocks make such a nice sound when you walk on them!
I love snow biomes they're by and far my favorite, right now I'm working on a large, multi-floored igloo made of snow blocks. I love to see the snow cuz it means more building material is falling from the sky! Plus I think it's pretty : ) I feel like the rain lasts too long when it starts. especially on MP. We had rain for 3 days straight one time, we had to all sleep in beds to get it to stop

Grass sounds really crunchy with my turtle beach surround. You are right, snow sounds soft like you are walking on a bunch of soft, white fluffy bunnies.

On topic; my current world rains very often, too. It seems every 2 or 3 in-game days gets rainfall but I've yet to have any thunder or lightning (not that thunder can even be heard in the 360 version. That's a whole 'nother topic). To escape it, I usually just go mining and sleep as soon as the sun hits the horizon to advance to day and skip it.

Sometimes it rains like a mofo in my world. To the point that I built a temporary glass ceiling above my mob grinder while I was building so I could have sunlight for building during the day, but not have to deal with the goddamned rain.
...of course, after I built it, I didn't get any rain until I was nearly done.
i would like snow... if i spent more time in a snow biome.
my house is not in a snow biome because i hate seeing everything covered in snow.
